Anti-Catholic Minuteman Expose (Video)

THESE ARE THE MINUTEMEN

NOTE:  I was planning to a piece on the FLDS (I have some new information) but was side-tracked by this story.  I think this is something that needs to be told.  I know I am telling it one-sided, against the Minutemen in California.  But what I have found is so repulsive and so vile it needs to be exposed to the light of day.  It is obvious someone is going to cross the line one of these days and shots are going to be fired.  I have a feeling it will be a Minuteman or one of their supporter who will do the shooting.  When this happens and a defense is made, naturally the Hispanic is going to be the evil one.

I think these videos are terribly important.  They show how abjectly evil these people are.

Do you have the courage to watch these videos?  There are a number of them at Minutemen Unvarnished – and take nearly an hour to watch.  Watch the video “Do You Believe in Jesus” as the San Diego Minutemen harass parishioners at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fallbrook.    This is in Fallbrook, CA.

Now see how it is portrayed in the local media.

If this is what Sheriff Joe is allowing in Maricopa County,   then he is as vile as are these individuals.  I don’t care what side of the immigration argument you are on.  If you think this is good, decent, and patriotic, then you are seriously disturbed and as evil as are these individuals.  When you start harassing people attending church, and mace people as they are going into church as this video shows you are as bad as they are.

ANTI CATHOLIC A TREND?
After watching these videos, it appears to me that there is an anti-Catholic. I’ve been covering the anti-immigration crowd’s anti-Catholic bigotry for several days.  Yesterday mentioned that  Harold Hutchinson at Called As Seen had picked up on the anti-Catholic bigotry of Tom Tancredo and Lou Dobbs. Harold references a WSJ piece about how they “insulted the Pope”. l   The Opinionated Catholic has more.   JJ mentions an editorial at Modern Commentaries about Michelle Malkin and her anti-Catholic rants. It is obvious there is a strong anti-Catholic bias in the whole anti-immigration movement, promoted by John Tanton and his dislike of anyone who is not lily white.  Why?
LA Times

“…t’s not too surprising that one of the pontiff’s most vocal critics was the poor man’s Howard Beale, CNN personality Lou Dobbs. He’s made something of a specialty of bashing the Catholic hierarchy in recent years, as part of his pseudo-populist campaign for ratings. Dobbs charged Benedict with “mixing religion and politics … in many ways insulting our country, talking about the need to be welcoming. … I really don’t appreciate the bad manners of a guest telling me in this country and my fellow citizens what to do.” Well, there you go, though the pope got off easy compared with L.A. civic leaders, whom Dobbs blasted after an earlier — and totally misleading — report on Special Order 40 and the case of Jamiel Shaw II, a young man allegedly shot to death by an illegal immigrant who is a gang member. Dobbs called city officials “liars” and singled out Police Chief Bill Bratton, whose defense of Special Order 40 — which puts certain restrictions on when police can inquire about a suspect’s immigration status — the broadcaster called “irresponsible” and “disgusting politics.” “And I think every one of you in the city of Los Angeles, running that city, supporting a sanctuary city and trying to excuse what happened to that family, I think it is contemptible,” said Dobbs….”

THE VIDEOS
(WARNING:  These videos feature profanity and obscene gestures)

(MigraMatters)  If this is an example of those who are anti-illegal and are “Minutemen” in San Diego, then I’d rather be castigated for being against them.  These people are filthy, vile, nasty trash.  This is a link to a video.  I am not doing an inbed, because of the filthy language.  From Minutemen Unvarnished comes a ‘best of’ collection of videos about the Minutemen.  Maybe you might want to ask for your money back (if they can account for it).  You might want to watch “I’m Allowed to Threaten People”.  The jerk is wearing a minuteman cap.  Look at the people who are with the Minutemen.  I wouldn’t let them in my driveway, let alone associate with them.  The one “Keep Your Hands to Yourselves” features San Diego Minuteman Founder Jeff Schwilk.  Try watching the one “Are You Legal?

How about this Minuteman waving his flag?  He’s nothing but a thug.  Watch “Remember after the Alamo” to see what these people look like.  They are scary.  Watch “No Talking Chickens”.   “Hello Witches” features the leader of the San Diego Minutemen harassing two activists.  Watch as the Minutemen follow the women, attempting to terrorize them. Do you really think these are nice people?  If I were those women, I would have been terrified.   The San Diego Minutemen were founded by Jim Gilchrist.

In “If You Love Mexicans” Jeff Schwilk accosts a Home Depot customer.  A minuteman then spits at the camera person.    “Get out of here” Jeff Schwilk goes after a Home Depot customer.   “Morning Wetbacks” shows how gentile the Minutemen are.

In “Vermin of VistaJeff Schwilk harasses and intimidates another activist.  This man is seriously disturbed.  I can’t believe people actually believe the you know what these people spout.    In “Bring It On” he tries to mace someone who disagrees with him.    In “He’s Trying to Scare Her” our boy Jeff finally gets picked up by a cop for harassing women.

Can you watch these videos and not call them evil?  Do you really want to have sympathy for them and for their cause?   These people think nothing of interrupting a church service because the people inside are Hispanic.   “Can I Get Your Name” is the video.  Then in “The Church is Nothing but Pimps” just shows how vile they are, using a loud speaker to blast a church service.  Obviously Sheriff Joe isn’t the only one who doesn’t give a rip about disrupting church services. They call the Catholic Church nothing but pimps.  Too bad these people can’t be arrested for disturbing a worship service.

Why don’t decent people realize how nasty these individuals are? “I gotta be Freakin’ Rank” shows this same bunch disrupting a funeral so they can harass people near-by.  Obviously they have no morality or decency.  In this one, a Minuteman did not wear deodorant, and then fans his nasty body in front of Hispanics. A woman is speaking Spanish.  They keep yelling at her to shut up.

Some of the goals of a “Free South Carolina” are

“…*…decide the abortion issue for ourselves. No longer would Federal courts be able to lord over us. Most South Carolinians would probably like to see the Federal court decision that gave us abortion overturned. Regardless, it would be for us to decide, not some remote judge.

*…eliminate affirmative-action entirely and root out the influences of “poltical-correctness” and multiculturalism from our government and society.

*…prevent our soldiers from being sent to die overseas for United Nations nation-building projects. Our soldiers would guard our national territory and lend aid to our allies if invaded.

*…stop illegal immigration and Third World immigration in general and rigorously guard our borders. We could heavily fine or strip business licenses from businesses and people that employ or house illegals….”

Another goal of a “Free South Carolina” is to remove Lindsey Graham from office.

SOUTHERN ACTIVISM
I consider myself a ‘southerner’ having been born in Florida and having grown up in South Carolina.  Things like this give the South a bad name. http://www.southernheritagepac.org/deck/deck.php

Note the League of the South and their activity in defeating immigration reform.  This isn’t about immigration reform – it is about extremists who have figured out a way to rattle ‘conservative’ cages, co-opt talk radio, and have their way with the world.

Read the League of the South activity list.

The Abbeville Chapter of the League of the South advocates Secession.

CHRISTIAN EXODUS
According to a friend who lives in Oconee County, SC, you had better be aware of Christian Exodus and the problems it can cause.

NOT REPUBLICAN

“Pro” Southern is NOT Republican.
Contrary to the hyped up extreme conservatives who now dominate talk radio and defeated immigration reform, we are not dealing with a full deck.  We are dealing with a well-organized, NON REPUBLICAN, very vocal minority.  My worry is the fact if they can destroy immigration reform I think we need to be afraid – very afraid – of what they will attempt next.

How familiar are you with the “Southern Party”?
Christian Exodus is not Republican and is pro Ron Paul.

The Pledge

“We, the undersigned, petition the Republican Party to support real conservative candidates for the 2008 presidential nomination.

In the belief that the Republican Party has become too liberal, we pledge, unless a suitable candidate is selected for the GOP 2008 presidential nomination, to stay home or vote third party (e.g. Constitution Party).

Returning to its liberal roots, the GOP has recently become the party of big business, neoliberal globalism, and unwise interventionism – not the party of conservatism.

The following presidential candidates are UNACCEPTABLE: John McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee, Chuck Hagel, Condoleezza Rice, et al. They all support the third-world invasion of the United States.

Unless a candidate is chosen who is tough on immigration (e.g. Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, or another candidate yet to announce), we shall have no choice but to vote third party.
We would like to stress these five points.

(1) We oppose the third-world invasion of the United States, and reject amnesty and any path to citizenship for illegals. We support deportation, attrition, and massive reductions in legal immigration, especially from the third world.

(2) We oppose free trade, the support of which has become an ideological suicide pact. Free trade is both destroying our economy and undermining our sovereignty. Historically, conservatives have opposed free trade, and they should, but many in the GOP have been “neoconned” on this issue.
(3) We support a moral candidate, critical of secularism, who embodies the virtues of the Christian Western tradition.

(4) We oppose the illegal neocon war in Iraq. The transformation of the Middle East to liberal democracy is Jacobin, not conservative.

(5) We wish to see big government reduced in size – in all three branches – and for many offices and functions to be returned to the states, where they Constitutionally belong.

Unless the above criteria are met, we pledge to stay home or vote third-party in 2008….”

WHICH LEADS US TO…
If Islamic terrorists now have advanced degrees, financial opportunity, and are the ‘right’ people for immigration –

We are dealing with the voices of hate who have infiltrated an issue and are manipulating it and conservatives within the GOP for their own agenda.  Unfortunately they are like the little kid who cried wolf once too often.  Illegal Mexican migrants have nothing – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING – to do with TERROR.  The problem is our anti-immigration minuteman voices are promoting this very idea.  We keep yelling “terror” where it isn’t – and now that we need to yell “terror” and focus attention on individuals who are:

LEGAL
WELL-EDUCATED
PROFESSIONAL
MIDDLE-EASTERN
NO CRIMINAL BACKGROUND
FAIRLY WELL OFF FINANCIALLY
“MODERATE ISLAMIC”

But the little minutemen, et. al and all their adorable little friends have cried ‘terror’ so much – is anyone now going to listen?

The one portion of that now defeated immigration bill I opposed was the emphasis on the following for guest workers:  I am glad that I did.

LEGAL
WELL-EDUCATED
PROFESSIONAL
NO CRIMINAL BACKGROUND
FAIRLY WELL OFF FINANCIALLY

AND TO THE VOICE OF DOOM…
The GOP can’t win elections without moderates.

HOW DOES THIS ALL TIE-IN
For over a year I have been saying the GOP is being manipulated, used and infiltrated by the forces of evil.  Stormfront, the white supremacist, neo-nazi web forum is preaching just this.

Conservatives who claim to be Republican are manipulating our public officials.  These “conservatives” have nothing to do with conservative and everything to do with the KKK, and other adorable little warm and fuzzy hate groups. They have co-opted public opinion for their agenda and are currently basking in the glow of their victory.  How far are good decent people going to allow this to go.

Joe Arpaio Primer

JOE ARPAIO IS AT IT AGAIN!

Arizona is rich with outlaw-lawman history.  Anyone who knows anything about me knows about my love of Tombstone history and my research and books about Wyatt Earp and Tombstone.  Because of this I find the exploits of “legendary”  Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio very interesting.  His conservative admirers, who are legion, like to compare him with Wyatt Earp.  Unfortunately, after getting to know Sheriff Joe and his keystone kops, one realizes there is a Tombstone analogy with Sheriff Joe, but it isn’t Wyatt Earp.  Fact is, there’s another famous (or infamous) Tombstone and Cochise County lawman who is Sheriff Joe personified – Cochise County Sheriff John Behan!  In fact, if you know anything about Tombstone during those wild and crazy days of the early 1880s, you will know that John Behan controlled a  huge political, legal, and publicity machine.  He was corrupt, charming, loved the press, and completely incompetent. Yep – that’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio!  Want to know more, just watch both Tombstone & Wyatt Earp.  You’ll soon get the picture.

Over the years a few publications in Arizona have had the courage to take on Joe Arpaio and expose the abject incompetence and the cruelty in the way he has treated inmates and the way he has trampled the rights of those who are incarcerated in Maricopa County.  Also there is the matter of nearly a million dollars in investment money Sheriff Joe never bothered to disclose.  Yep – just like John Behan.

The New Times reports

“…While voters lapped up the sheriff’s harsh approach to inmates in his jails — from forcing them to wear pink underwear, to feeding them oxidized, green bologna, to working them in chain gangs, to housing inmates in tents — New Times writers pointed out that the cruelty and violence in Arpaio’s lockups prompted Amnesty International’s first investigation in America.

And people continued to die under Arpaio’s care. Crippled people, blind people, people out of their minds. Local attorney Michael Manning has collected nearly $20 million in damages from the county over inmates killed in Arpaio’s custody.

When Arpaio stood yet again for election in 2004, New Times’ relationship with the sheriff was 12 years old.

Sheriff Arpaio hid nearly $790,000 in cold hard cash in three real estate investments that former New Times staff writer John Dougherty discovered in July 2004, in the middle of a heated primary election.

Arpaio stashed an indeterminate amount of cash in another six parcels of commercial and residential real estate.

With more than a million dollars invested, how could there not be questions?

Columnist Dougherty wondered how a public servant surviving on a $78,000 sheriff’s salary and a government retirement check could afford such an investment portfolio.

It was not a pointless query. In 12 years overseeing (at the time) a $140 million law enforcement empire, Arpaio had never suffered a thorough audit by the county.

Perhaps the sheriff inherited a fortune from a distant relative.

A paper trail that should have been public would have reassured voters.

But the normal public real estate records maintained by the government were not available when it came to Sheriff Arpaio.

He used an arcane statute meant to conceal home addresses of law enforcement officials to shield his investments….”

Now Sheriff Joe has decided to abjectly trample the Constitution by running rough-shod over the Phoenix New Times, their editors, reporters, and ANYONE who has EVER linked to four specific articles about Sheriff Joe, or even read the articles online.  Yep – if you (and I) have even clicked on those articles, they want the New Times’s stored cookies.  They are going to investigate EVERYONE who has read those articles.  I suspect they are also going to start combing the internet for anyone who blogs against America’s favorite lawman. I don’t know about you, but this is absolutely terrifying and absolute chilling.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin write

“…This newspaper and its editorial staff — both current and former — are the targets of unprecedented grand jury subpoenas dated August 24. The authorities are also using the grand jury subpoenas in an attempt to research the identity, purchasing habits, and browsing proclivities of our online readership.

It is, we fear, the authorities’ belief that what you are about to read here is against the law to publish. But there are moments when civil disobedience is merely the last option. We pray that our judgment is free of arrogance.

These are the issues as we understand them.

In a breathtaking abuse of the United States Constitution, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, and their increasingly unhinged cat’s paw, special prosecutor Dennis Wilenchik, used the grand jury to subpoena “all documents related to articles and other content published by Phoenix New Times newspaper in print and on the Phoenix New Times website, regarding Sheriff Joe Arpaio from January 1, 2004 to the present.”

Every note, tape, and record from every story written about Sheriff Arpaio by every reporter over a period of years.

In addition to the omnibus subpoena, which referred to our writer Stephen Lemons directly, reporters John Dougherty and Paul Rubin were targeted with individual subpoenas.

More alarming still, Arpaio, Thomas, and Wilenchik subpoenaed detailed information on anyone who has looked at the New Times Web site since 2004.

Every individual who looked at any story, review, listing, classified, or retail ad over a period of years….”

Why?  Several years ago Sheriff Joe’s home address was printed at the bottom of an opinion column on their web site, along with some fascinating information about some commercial real estate Sheriff Joe was evidently trying to hide from public view!  The only way to handle this is to just quote directly from the New Times.

“… have now erupted into a courtroom donnybrook against a backdrop of illegal immigration disputes, Mexican drug cartels, the Minutemen, political ambition, and turf disputes between prosecutors and the judiciary.

And given the diva-like drama that Arpaio attaches to even the mundane, you can add to the grand jury tension the paranoia of a Keystone Kops assassination “plot” against “America’s toughest sheriff.”

Behind these operatic and public developments, an ethical stain has spread over the secret proceedings of the grand jury.

Special prosecutor Wilenchik has sabotaged the integrity of the investigation.

Not content with using the hidden power of sweeping grand jury subpoenas, the government’s lawyer attempted to get the ear of the sitting judge — out of earshot of New Times’ attorneys.

Special prosecutor Wilenchik used a politically potent emissary in a behind-the-curtain attempt to set up a meeting between the judge overseeing the grand jury and Wilenchik.

In a hastily called hearing October 11, the judge labeled Wilenchik’s attempt to set up an ex parte discussion “absolutely inappropriate.”…”

But – this is the worst of it.  And, quite frankly, anyone who is an admirer of Sheriff Joe should reconsider their admiration of him and realize how absolutely chilling these developments are – if allowed to stand.  The implications for anyone who even reads the internet are horrifying and reek of something that would happen in China, not the US.  Remember – this is going to the Grand Jury for an investigation.  Does this imply that someone like moi who is writing about Sheriff Joe can be called to the same Grand Jury?  Clearly it is an attempt to squash any critical reporting and expose of Sheriff Joe, the conservative favorite.

“…In a grandiose insult to the Constitution, Arpaio, Thomas, and Wilenchik used the grand jury to subpoena the online profiles of anyone who viewed four specific articles on the sheriff.

The pertinent section of the secret grand jury subpoena reads, in part: “All internet web site information for the Phoenix New Times internet site related to the web pages . . . [four specific articles on the sheriff]. The information should include, but not be limited to: The Internet Protocol addresses of any and all visitors to each page of . . . [four specific articles on the sheriff]. . .”

Energized, perhaps, by this mugging of Constitutional safeguards, Arpaio, Thomas, and Wilenchik then shot the moon. The grand jury subpoena also demands Web site profiles of anyone and everyone who visited New Times online over the past two and a half years, not merely readers who viewed articles on the sheriff.

The subpoena demands: “Any and all documents containing a compilation of aggregate information about the Phoenix New Times Web site created or prepared from January 1, 2004 to the present, including but not limited to :

A) which pages visitors access or visit on the Phoenix New Times website;

B) the total number of visitors to the Phoenix New Times website;

C) information obtained from ‘cookies,’ including, but not limited to, authentication, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users (site preferences, contents of electronic shopping carts, etc.);

D) the Internet Protocol address of anyone that accesses the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;

E) the domain name of anyone that has accessed the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;

F) the website a user visited prior to coming to the Phoenix New Times website;

G) the date and time of a visit by a user to the Phoenix New Times website;

H) the type of browser used by each visitor (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, etc.) to the Phoenix New Times website; and

I) the type of operating system used by each visitor to the Phoenix New Times website.”

Special prosecutor Wilenchik wants this information on each and every New Times reader online since 2004….”

The Phoenix New Times

“New Times and two of its writers have sued Maricopa County and a special deputy county attorney in U.S. District Court, asking the judge to enjoin the defendants from violating the newspaper’s constitutional rights….”

The Feathered Bastard (our favorite liberal site) has news that Sheriff Joe’s co-horts, the County Attorney, etc. are being investigated by the AZ State Bar.

“…And in an October 10 letter to the Arizona Republic, McAuliffe wrote that, “These attacks appear to be transparent attempts to cow the judiciary into rulings that are acceptable to the source of these attacks. The prospect of having a decision vilified on the front page of your newspaper cannot help but have a chilling effect on the ability of a judge to evaluate independently the legal merits of an issue that has been presented for decision.

“There is a correct way to question a judge’s actions, and that is through the appellate courts or the Commission on Judicial Conduct, and not through the media.” Are Thomas and Wilenchik on their way to being sanctioned somehow by the State Bar? That would be an incredible development, but then it’s already incredible that the State Bar on its own would begin investigating a sitting a County Attorney….”

For more information on why these two are being investigated, consult The Phoenix New Times.  Evidently they tried to ‘get to’ the Judge Baca and try to influence how she ruled in the grand jury investigation of The Phoenix New Times.

“…The Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct are unequivocal: “A lawyer shall not communicate ex-parte with such a person (judge, juror, prospective juror) during the proceeding . . .”

Were it not for Judge Anna Baca’s impeccable character, her willingness to short-circuit the conversation with friend Carol Turoff at the same time that she made a record of the approach, Wilenchik’s brazen tactic would never have surfaced.

And yet he remains the special prosecutor.

There will be many questions about our decision to make public the secret machinations of the special prosecutor armed with grand jury powers.

Consider this: When the wife of a senior member of County Attorney Andrew Thomas’ management team feels free to contact the sitting judge, and when the special prosecutor who initiated this idea of an ex-parte meeting sees nothing wrong with conduct his own profession prohibits, we feel compelled to shed light upon these remarkable proceedings.

And make no mistake: Special prosecutor Wilenchik sees nothing wrong with what he did.

Judge Baca told the prosecutor that it was “absolutely inappropriate.”

“With all due respect,” argued Dennis Wilenchik, “it was absolutely appropriate.”

It is little wonder that special prosecutor Wilenchik found nothing inappropriate about his ex parte contact with Judge Baca; his instinct to engage in subversive tactics underscores his lack of professional ethics.

On October 3, precisely one week before Turoff phoned Judge Baca, Wilenchik smeared Superior Court Judge Timothy Ryan in an orchestrated campaign that is part of County Attorney Thomas’ anti-illegal immigration strategy….”

A few weeks ago, Wilenchik went after Judge Timothy Ryan over his rulings on the legality of some of Arizona’s new anti-immigration laws and the legality of some of Sheriff Joe’s antics regarding ‘racial profiling’ when it came to establishing standards that law enforcement must meet when establishing the protocol of determining if a person is legal or not.

“…This summer, Arpaio’s jail denied admittance to Ramon Delgadillo, who’d worked 25 years as a court translator. Despite his extensive track record, the Sheriff’s Office demanded papers that proved he was a naturalized citizen.

Although Arpaio was forced to change jail policy, the confusion underscored the need for coherent and reasonable guidelines while considering bail for suspected illegal aliens.

Wilenchik addressed the issue with such outlandish hostility that there were immediate calls for complaints to be filed against him with the state Bar.

Although Wilenchik’s role as hired gun was highlighted by his inability to answer questions from Judge Ryan about the cases in dispute, he nonetheless attacked the judge’s questions as “self-serving.”

Tellingly, County Attorney Thomas, though unhappy with certain rulings and conduct of Judge Ryan, neither appealed the decisions in question nor asked for judicial review, which are the legal routes for redress.

Instead, members of the news media were notified in advance that they should attend a hearing in Judge Ryan’s court. At the hearing, Wilenchik made the incredible demand that Ryan step down from all cases.

Rather than proceeding through normal legal channels, Wilenchik’s ad hominem attack marked the beginning of a three-day public assault on the courts by Thomas, highlighted by the grandstanding demand that all 93 judges in Maricopa County be replaced by out-of-county judges.

The presiding judge of the county Superior Court, Barbara Mundell, denied the motion, noting that “no facts to establish bias or prejudice of any, and certainly not all of the 93 judges” was put into evidence.

Still pending, as we went to press, was the effort to remove Judge Ryan individually.

Lost in Wilenchik and Thomas’ tactics were the people involved in the cases. As Judge Mundell noted, all the victims, witnesses, and defendants would have suffered unnecessary hardships and delays under Wilenchik’s preposterous motion.

Of course, the idea to strike Judge Ryan and his 92 colleagues in Superior Court was pursued with little regard for legal victory but maximum regard for publicity value. And the execution of this media ploy was both heavy-handed and vicious, playing fast and loose with anti-immigrant prejudices.

The same kind of heavy-handed unscrupulousness by Wilenchik was reported by New Times reporter Paul Rubin in the lawyer’s recent defamation defense of Sheriff Joe Arpaio …”

A QUICK MINI RANT

Before this is over, this whole issue could end up being one huge Constutitional mess that ends up in the SCOTUS. I trust my readers will grasp the absolutely chilling implications of what Sheriff Joe and his associates are attempting to do. How long are conservatives going to keep up their constant approval of this man?  When are they going to open their eyes and demand accountability?  Just because there is a “R” by a person’s name doesn’t give us license to ignore their faults.
DID SIMCOX THREATEN ARPAIO?
This is just way too good to let go.  Seems like Sheriff Joe (our very own American version of the Sheriff of Nottingham) is now accusing Minuteman leader Chris Simcox, among others, of plotting to kill him.  I am not kidding!

Seems like Sheriff Joe and Putkin have a heck of a lot in common:
1.  They both think people are out to off ‘em
2.  Both try to silence journalists who try to expose ‘em
3.  They both try and take out their opposition
4.  Both have their own version of prison camps

Yep – lots in common!  Sheriff Joe has decided that Chris Simcox and his merry little minutemen, among others, including an immigration rights activist, are trying to do him in, mostly for publicity.  According to the Phoenix New Times

“…The MCSO brain trust actually believed Bermudez was helping the Minutemen take out a hit on Joe through big-time narco gangsters! What was the MCSO smokin’?! Joe’s handlers even hustled the lawman and spouse Ava out of their abode, shuttlin’ them from one fleabag hole to another. In the Republic’s story, Joe gripes about having to eat a Denny’s hamburger instead of his Easter ham. He almost sounds like some decrepit dictator, like, say, Cuba’s ancient commie leader, Fidel Castro, a doddering figurehead not even in control of his own person. “When I have to move out of my house,” huffed Arpaio to the Republic, “from one dumpy hotel room to another, I don’t blame my staff. It’s their job to protect me.” Isn’t Joe sentient enough to realize when his dunderheaded deputies don’t know their keisters from a groundhog hole? Jesus, if they’d tried hidin’ you in Tent City, Joe, would you have gone? “He doesn’t have it upstairs anymore,” Bermudez observed to The Bird. “Most of the stuff he puts out in the press, he’s practiced and memorized. One-on-one, when he’s not guarded, he mumbles, he says incoherent things, he introduces [MCSO flack] Paul Chagolla to me five times in the space of 15 minutes.”MCSO investigators interrogated Bermudez in June about the alleged plot, but Bermudez didn’t learn ’til recently that the Sheriff’s Office finally had it figured for a crock. That’s why, when The Bird chatted with Bermudez in August about the hubbub over that pic he circulated of Arpaio in Ku Klux Klan garb, Bermudez said he believed he was going to be arrested…”

Seriously, this isn’t the first time Arpaio has done the assissination thing, keeping disabled and disturbed kid in jail for 4 years, even ignoring the man’s request for an attorney.   So, this is nothing new.  Inquiring minds in Phoenix and Maricopa are asking if Sheriff Joe is losing it, or is this more of the same old same old? Our new favorite liberal site The Feathered Bastard, has all the juicy details.

“…I’m not knocking the grunts. I reckon they were just doing their jobs, especially since the higher-ups so desperately wanted to believe this javelina hockey. See, Elias Bermudez was supposed to be the go-between in the caper, brokering a $3 million contract on Arpaio’s life, with the Minutemen ponying up the dolo and the Meraz drug-running org using a hit squad hired from the infamous (and some say mythical) Los Zetas paramilitary group. Um, I think the first indication that this tale was a big ol’ pantload would be Bermudez and the Minutemen holding hands….

…$330 is certainly a pittance in comparison to the $500K the MCSO reportedly spent on the investigation. But that only adds insult to injury: MCSO bigwigs fell for a penny-ante grifter’s verbal three-card Monte, and they’re STILL falling for it. Chief Black, head of Arpaio’s special ops, told the Rep, “We’re still investigating. We still don’t believe it’s over…We still continue to believe the threat is out there.”

To quote the Geico caveman, “What!?” In the MCSO report, the CI tells them, at one point, that he’s been offered $10,000 by the drug smugglers for his role as a translator, but refused receipt of the payment. Then he turns right around and asks his MCSO handlers for $100. Didn’t this make anyone a tad suspicious? What was the CI’s motivation in all this? He doesn’t want to get paid $10K, but he needs $100 for expenses? Puh-lease!… Joe’s “Selective Enforcement Unit,” which seems like Joe’s personal Praetorian Guard, is suckered in by these James Bond-ish daydreams where hit squads are studying shaky surveillance video of Arpaio and divvying up their not-so-incognito attire, like Jordache shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, Nike tennis shoes, etc. The MCSO even does its research of the Los Zetas crime group on Wikipedia! Wow. Now that’s really sad, people. Some of their other info. on Los Zetas comes from the uber-right moonbatt site WorldNetDaily; conservative fruitcake William Gheen’s ALIPAC site; and wacko wing-nut Alex Jones’ PrisonPlanet.com. That’s right, you can rest easy at night knowing that the MCSO gets info. from a man who believes 9/11 was an inside job and that world leaders worship Satan up in Bohemian Grove. (That would be Jones, mind you.)

The MCSO comes off as a deeply paranoid and delusional organization. As well as just plain dangerous. It didn’t take much for them to try to tie in Elias Bermudez into this “conspiracy to commit murder” investigation. They even have a copy of that Arpaio-as-Klansman pic Bermudez sent around a couple of months back. (See, “Grand Wizard Arpaio,” August 23, 2007). They definitely wanted to take him down. You’d think the informant’s canards linking Bermudez to nativist Minutemen would have caused an arched eyebrow, or two. But no. And that’s where you come off believing that these Rosco P. Coletranes are more menace than comedians. Like Reno 911 or Super Troopers, but with the power to waste big taxpayer bucks and chase chimeras while real criminals get away with murder. Be afraid, people. Be very afraid….”

Now for the serious commentary on the subject:  Seems like the Maricopa Co Sheriff’s Office spent a half million dollars during the past 6 months to protect Arpaio Chris Simcox and an immigration rights activist.  Yep, you read this correct.

“The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spent an estimated $500,000 during the past six months protecting Joe Arpaio from an assassination that supposedly was designed to cause a furor in the United States over illegal immigration. The convoluted plot, reported to police by a paid informant, purportedly involved members of the Minutemen border group hiring a hit squad from a Mexican drug cartel and using an outspoken immigrant-rights advocate as their intermediary. Sheriff’s officials now acknowledge that virtually none of the information supplied by the source panned out. According to the informant, Mexican nationals were to be blamed for the killing, which was to be carried out by members of Los Zetas, an enforcement arm of the smuggling organizations comprised mostly of former Mexican police and soldiers.
The informant, claiming to be a translator for cartel leaders, said he witnessed a down payment of $1.5 million for the slaying. In all, 88 employees have played a role in the investigation since it began in mid-March. The Sheriff’s Office racked up about 16,720 hours of work on the case, plus nearly $82,000 in credit-card bills for gas, meals, airfare and motel rooms, including those for Sheriff Arpaio. Detectives staked out border crossings, hid Arpaio in hotel rooms and chased leads from Connecticut to the Arizona-Mexico border. People identified by the informant said they had never heard of the plot. The president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps was incredulous at the idea his group would have been involved….

…According to the informant, two Minutemen leaders met with the administrator for a Mexican narcotics ring. The informant told sheriff’s deputies that the Minutemen wanted Arpaio killed to “rally more support for their cause, which is to secure the U.S.-Mexican border and stop illegal immigration.”  They purportedly agreed on a price of $3 million in cash, with an advance payment of $1.5 million. The informant said Elias Bermudez, a Phoenix immigrant-rights advocate and talk-radio host, served as an intermediary in the plot. Bermudez said he never heard of the plot until he was contacted by investigators….”It’s pure fabrication,” Bermudez said. “I told them I had no reason to have the demise of the sheriff. . . . The idea of me and the Minutemen trying to hire someone to do this is outlandish.”

Chris Simcox, president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, expressed bewilderment when told of the informant’s story. “Wow, that’s quite a rich plot,” he said. “Look, Joe Arpaio is like a hero to us as Minutemen. Why would we want to go against the toughest sheriff in the country?”…”

HE HAS SERIOUS OPPOSITION, TOO

“...Today, Daniels has been forced to live in a hospital cell in complete isolation. His only visitors are medical staff. Sheriff’s deputies have taken away his television, his radio, his phone and his computer. He’s under 24-hour surveillance. The light in his room is never turned off, even at night. His only contact with the outside world is a pay phone….”

The punch line?  Well, it seems as though Robert Daniels’ was misdiagnosed.  Had Sheriff Joe allowed the man to receive normal medical attention and humane treatment, this would have been avoided.  The problem is the Constitution doesn’t matter to Sheriff Joe.  Neither does humane treatment of prisoners.  This isn’t a conservative issue or a liberal issue.  It is an issue about competency and outright human decency.  If Arpaio did not know how badly this man was being treated, then he should start cleaning house and get rid of the people who were responsible for this abject disaster.

I love it when Joe Arapio looks bad.  Sorry, but that’s my opinion. This time he’s literally lost a high profile inmate, Robert Daniels, who absconded to Russia to get away from the long arm of the High Sheriff and get treatment for TB.  Or – another mis-diagnosed case? The more you think about this case the worse it looks.  What Arpaio allowed to be done to this man either through abject incompetence or complete lack of concern is deplorable and should be considered actionable.
Blogger News Network

“…Robert Daniels the 27, year old tuberculosis patient held for months in a room draped to block out the sun and denied appropriate treatment by sheriff Joe Arpaio. Untill mounting National media pressure forced county health officials to allow travel for medical treatment in Colorado has fled to Russia, unable to “take the abuse” any more, his lawyer reported.
Declared by Maricopa county Arizona health officials to be suffering from a deadly drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis Sheriff Arpaio placed him in solitary confinement in a Maricopa county jail ward in August 2006…Daniels who faced becoming one of many in a long list of inmates who die while in the Sheriff’s custody. Avoided a lingering death when the national media attention focused on an Atlanta lawyer suffering a similar condition….Fearing the potential of losing another multimillion dollar lawsuit related to the sheriffs ongoing pattern of human rights violations. The county over the sheriffs objection permitted Daniels to travel under armed guard to Colorado for medical treatment. The Sheriff in interviews after ward expressed the attitude that somehow Daniels was responsible for the negative national publicity and vowed to find a reason to place the Russian born American back in his jail.
… It is also reliably reported by Doctors in Colorado who treated Daniels that Arizona county medical authorities misdiagnosed Daniels to begin with and he in fact did not suffer from the deadly type of T.B which the sheriff claimed justified his solitary confinement. Had the sheriff simply allowed medical staff at the county hospital to give Daniels appropriate medical care he might still have both lungs….”

From the AZ Central

“…”Robert is helpless,” she said. “And he’s at the mercy of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He needs as much support as possible, and the ACLU is supplying that support.” Arpaio said Daniels must abide by security measures. “I run a safe jail, and he’s going to be treated like anyone else,” he said. Daniels, who holds dual United States and Russian citizenship, moved to Arizona in January 2006 after contracting extreme multi-drug-resistant (XDR) TB.  Daniels, who spent his teen years in Scottsdale, said he returned to the U.S. in search of work and a college education. Months later, he became severely ill and was placed in a county sanitarium for indigent TB patients. Dr. Maricela Moffitt, a county physician, has testified that Daniels willfully failed to take his medications, decreasing the likelihood that last-chance drugs would cure his deadly disease. Moreover, Moffitt said, Daniels endangered others by going out in public and entertaining visitors without wearing a mask. Arpaio said his office is reviewing possible criminal charges against Daniels. Daniels has insisted that he did not understand the contagiousness or gravity of his condition, in part because TB patients in Russia do not wear masks. Daniels also has said he missed taking medications a few times because he overslept, not intentionally. In August, a Maricopa County Superior Court commissioner ordered Daniels placed under involuntary quarantine. The jail ward at Maricopa Medical Center is considered the only Valley facility equipped for such confinement. According to court records, Daniels has spent much of his time in custody without a phone, TV, radio, shower or hot water. Earlier this week, Daniels said he was told that his TB bacteria may be developing resistance to all antibiotics, and a portion of his lungs might require surgical removal. He said he was advised to write letters to his child in Moscow so the boy would have communication before his father’s death. Cosme described Daniels as extremely depressed and fragile due to isolation and stress. She said the ACLU will soon file motions seeking an expedited hearing and an injunction to immediately improve Daniels’ treatment….”

Unacceptable treatment.
Democracy Now

“…FORMER MARICOPA COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER WORKER: He says he cries a lot, says he’s very depressed. You have to understand that he is in what, for all practical purposes, is in solitary confinement. He is in a room in the hospital that, number one, has no hot water, has no privacy, has no natural lights. The windows are blocked. He has no visitation. He can make calls, but who can afford to accept their collect calls? At 4:00, they turn the telephone on. He doesn’t really have magazines. If he does, it’s rare. He doesn’t have TV. He does not have a radio. So all he has is the quietness of the room and then the nurses coming in when they bring him his medicine. He cannot take a shower. There are no showers right now. There are no showers on the floor. But he has not had a shower since January. So he gets nothing for personal hygiene other than a basin of water and some, you know, washcloths. So he’s unable to shampoo his hair, because the faucet in a detention unit is very small, and, of course, with no warm water in there, he can’t shampoo anyway….”

NOTE:  I don’t like Joe Arapio.  I think he is an incompetent bully.  That said, I am going to try an attempt to be ‘fair and balanced.  I think the best way, once I get into his re-election campaign, is to turn it over to the Sonoran Alliance and let them defend him. Red State Arizona

The Feathered Bastard, rapidly becoming one of our favorite liberal spots, loves to take on Sheriff Joe.  Don Saban has recently announced he will be running against Sheriff Joe this year.  The Feathered Bastard has a juicy interview with Rick Romley about Saban, the last election, and more failings of Sheriff Joe.

“…Is Arpaio bad for public safety?
I don’t think he’s the right person for the sheriff’s office. I’ve had my personal disagreements with him. Well, “professional disagreements” is a better term. The [Scott] Norberg case and so forth. I think it would serve our community very well for there to be a change in office.Note: Norberg was an MCSO inmate who died in custody. His family sued and eventually scored an $8.25 million settlement.] Was the way Saban was trashed in ’04 by Arpaio’s side a factor in your endorsement? Quite honestly, I was aware of it. I didn’t know the intimate details. Being trashed though is just one of the considerations I put into my decision-making process. I’ve seen quite a bit of that out of the sheriff’s office in the past. Whenever there’s an opponent against Joe Arpaio, Joe gets mad. Joe Arpaio’s very angry and if you look at all his press conferences and releases, he’s mad anytime anybody says something [about him]. He’s taken it out personally, whether it was the Norberg family where they lost a son, calling him a drug addict, almost like he deserved to die. He seemed to me to be very cavalier about it. And there are other times where that occurred. Although it was a factor, it wasn’t a primary factor….”

ARAPIO = THE COWARD OF THE COUNTY?

“The Bird” a muckraking columnist in Phoenix has found some interesting connections between Joe Arapo, a man I consider one of the most evil, vile in the country and Rusty Childress.  It isn’t much, but I’ve learned after researching the white supremacist anti-immigration ties of these people, is the fact that where there’s smoke, there’s either marijuana or fire.  (did you hear the one about his drug lab sting)t

The Phoenix New Times
“…That’s a mild comment considering Arpaio’s recent anti-Hispanic activities, like the racist MCSO “hotline” that’s been set up for reporting illegal immigrants. Also, Arpaio continues to collar the undocumented for the crime of “conspiring” to smuggle themselves into the country. And Joe’s promised to pop any illegals who have the temerity to show up to visit loved ones locked in his gulags.

Heretofore, this tweeter’s just figured Joe for a cruel, power-mad asshole. But more and more, he’s been pandering to the nativist crowd, including a recent appearance at one of the regular Thursday-night prejudice powwows at Rusty Childress’ Kia dealership, wherein members of United for a Sovereign America do everything but don white robes, burn crosses, and, uh, you know, lynch some beaners.

Oddly, at the Childress meeting Arpaio attended, Joe mentioned that he felt some compassion for illegals, but this sentiment garnered scorn from the Childress chowderheads, as was reported previously in The Bird (”Arpaio, Compassionate?,” August 16). Deep down, Arpaio’s an equal-opportunity sadist, but his doings of late have nudged him over to bigot Russell Pearce’s camp….”
THE BIRD reports that Arpaio has a vendetta history of trying to ‘get’ anyone who goes against him.  Recently someone photo-shopped a photo of Arpaio in KKK garb.  His majesty was not amused.
“…Bermudez confessed that he’s afraid Joe’s thugs will soon arrest him on trumped-up charges, perhaps unrelated to the Klan pic, and that he has hired an attorney in case this occurs.

“My information is that for some reason or other, the sheriff feels that I might be part of a conspiracy to take his life,” he said.

As wild as it sounds, it would not be the first time Apraio’s pulled such a stunt. Anyone remember James Saville, the poor schmuck whom reporter John Dougherty wrote about in New Times (”The Plot to Assassinate Arpaio,” August 5, 1999)? The sheriff’s office unsuccessfully attempted to entrap an 18-year-old parolee in a fake bomb plot. Four years later, a jury acquitted Saville, who turned down a plea deal while waiting for his day in court.

And Saville was a guy who’d never done anything to incur Joe’s wrath, unlike Bermudez. The whole thing’s beginning to smell like a ploy to conveniently hobble one of the Sheriff’s most persistent critics.

V FOR VENDETTA

The Bird feels for Bermudez because there but for the grace of that great winged deity in the sky goes this ink-slingin’ egret. Recently, as regular readers of The Bird’s bloggin’ buddy, Feathered Bastard, know, Arpaio flack Paul Chagolla insinuated that this jocular jaybird may be jailed should he ever stop by in person to pick up copies of requested public docs….”

Arpaio is the darling of the conservative news and of FOX, where his heavy-handed and unethical if not downright illegal ploys are ignored.  If news agencies profile him to his disadvantage or expose the many problems with the MCSO he threatens them.  He has had reporters arrested.  No tactic is too petty or over-the-top.  And, he keeps on getting away with it.
“…Arresting a journo doin’ his job sounds insane. But so does the number Joe’s machine pulled on once and future sheriff’s candidate Dan Saban, detailed in New Times scribe Paul Rubin’s cover story (”Boob’s Tube,” January 25, 2007). Saban was seen as a viable threat to Arpaio during the 2004 Republican primary, so Arpaio and his henchmen, such as three-ton boot-licker David Hendershott, tried to hang a screwy, decades-old rape claim on Saban, currently Buckeye’s police chief.

Saban’s lawsuit against Arpaio over the matter began in Superior Court on August 20. Whichever way it goes, it should serve as proof of the vindictiveness and meanness Arpaio and his cronies continue to display toward anybody or any entity refusing to bow down to them.

The sheriff’s spitefulness was further highlighted with the determination of the MCSO not to send press releases to the tiny West Valley View, even after being bitch-slapped by two courts! Cost to the public coffers? Oh, an estimated $100K.

Arpaio’s regime regularly forces Maricopa County’s taxpayers to foot the legal bill for unnecessary injuries and deaths that occur in its facilities, sometimes to the tune of millions a pop. But the MCSO doesn’t care, even when the taxpayer’s tab is a direct result of something really pathetic, like removing a newspaper (the WVV) from its e-mail list….”

ARPIAO’S REIGN OF TERROR
According to the Phoenix New Times…
“…While the incidents listed above are bad enough, they don’t get at the more serious problems during Arpaio’s 12-year reign. Inmates continue to be killed and maimed in Arpaio’s county dungeons, ranked as among the worst in the world by Amnesty International. About 9,000 people are stuffed into the county’s jails, which were built to hold a maximum of 5,000 inmates.

Increasingly paranoid, Arpaio routinely uses his police powers to illegally investigate political opponents and silence any employee and, in some cases, any private citizen, who dares to criticize his office.

At the same time, Arpaio refuses to comply with Arizona’s public records law, flagrantly ignoring my requests for routine records concerning the financial operations of the jail. My demand for the financial documents relating to the jail commissary comes on the heels of my discovery that Arpaio has invested an inordinately large amount of cash ($800,000) in three commercial real estate ventures. His spokeswoman insists that nothing is amiss here, but Arpaio refuses to divulge the details of these transactions….”
His goon squad burned down a house as they went to serve warrants on people who were, granted, criminals.  But the warrants were for minor crimes.  You don’t burn down a house for that reason.
“…”They shot the dog in the face with a fire extinguisher when he tried to come out of the fire,” says Trisha Golden, Gabrial’s younger sister, who helped raise the dog and was outside the burning home calling for it to come out. She did not live at the house, but hung out there frequently, she says. She heard about the fire and came immediately. “He turned and ran back into the master bedroom and burned [to death].”

Delfino says he asked one of the SWAT officers what happened to Dre and was told that the dog had been “neutralized” with the fire extinguisher. He asked the officer if the dog had attacked anybody, and the cop said no.

As smoke filled the house and Kush’s efforts to save the dog failed, he finally fled from the burning home and was immediately thrown to the ground and his hands and feet were cuffed by four SWAT officers.

Meanwhile, Trisha Golden continued frantically to call for Dre to flee the house.

“We were like screaming for Dre, and [a deputy] turned around and said, `Why don’t you shut the fuck up?!’” Trisha Golden says.

I couldn’t reach Eric Kush or Gabrial Golden for comment. But Kush, a biking and skateboarding enthusiast, told KTVK-TV Channel 3 that sheriff’s deputies thought it was hilarious that his dog had burned to death in the fire.

“As they’re hog-tying me, they have the nerve and the audacity to laugh at me and say, `Did you hear that dog screaming upstairs?’” Kush told Channel 3. “I don’t know how they have the audacity and the heart to say something like that.”

Eric Kush is not an intimidating fellow. He’s about five-feet-six-inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. There was no indication he had taken anybody hostage or was endangering the neighborhood.

In fact, neighbors say he is a friendly and easygoing guy. His only legal blemish was the outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

If MCSO truly believed they were facing a madman armed to the teeth with armor-piercing bullets that would cut through the flimsy chicken-wire and stucco walls of homes in the neighborhood, they didn’t have the sense to alert neighbors to get the hell out of Dodge….”

Arpaio did not have jurisdiction over the region where they unleashed the flames of hell.  It was a City matter.  And, Arpaio did not have the decency to even contact the police to give them a head’s up.
“…As fire spread throughout the house and engulfed the dog, the SWAT team soon had another crisis erupt.

The armored personnel carrier was pulled back from the house as the fire raged. But a deputy apparently failed to set the brakes on the heavy vehicle and it began rolling down a hill and smashed into a parked car.

The combat vehicle caused at least $4,000 damage to Julie Madrigal’s car. The 44-year-old mother and her 9-year-old daughter had already been terrified by the tear gas assault as they fled from their car and ran into their house. At least Madrigal and her daughter weren’t in the path of the carrier as it careened down the hill.

“I heard three shots as we were running in,” Madrigal says. “I thought, `Oh my God. They are shooting at us.’ I didn’t know what was going on.”

Madrigal says she watched the house burst into flames and moments later was shocked to see the “tank” roll down the road toward her car….”

FINANCIAL QUESTIONS
Not only is Arpaio incompetent, but his financial practices are questionable.  No one dares prosecute him for it.  If this were a Republican in DC, they would be in jail by now! Examples:
“…In court, testimony revealed Arpaio requested the transfer for “political reasons,” arranged by a simple phone call. No paperwork, no explanation.
Again, the specific procedures, as per MCSO’s policy manual for transporting inmates, requiring paperwork stating, at the minimum, the inmate’s name, classification and reason for the transfer, were not followed either.
Court dates came and went for Patrick at Maricopa County Superior Court, while he sat in Navajo County Jail. He had no way to contact his attorney and neither county took responsibility for transporting Patrick to his court appearances.
Judge Granville acknowledged Patrick’s sixth amendment rights had been violated, but he never found Arpaio or anyone else responsible.
By court order, Patrick, held since November 2003, was transported back to Maricopa County Jail to await trial, which has now been given a “New Last Day” of Sept 9, 2005.
Arpaio calls everyone in jail “crooks.” Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was granted emergency orders by U.S.
District Court Judge Earl Carroll placing Driving Hawk, who still works for Arpaio in internal affairs, under a restraining order and receivership for his part in a nationwide $88 million investment scam.
In its complaint the SEC states, “The Defendants directly or indirectly, singly or in concert with others, in the offer and sale of securities … employed devices, schemes or artifices to defraud; … obtained money or property by means of untrue statements of material fact or omissions and … engaged in transactions, practices or courses of business which operate or would operate as a fraud or deceit.” Arpaio sees nothing wrong with Driving Hawk’s continued employment or assignment to internal affairs.
After Arpaio totaled his county-owned Ford Crown Victoria in the Osco Drug parking lot in Fountain Hills on Saturday, April 2, the 72-year-old offered more denial.
According to Maricopa County Risk Management Auto Loss Notice’s description of the accident, Arpaio was “attempting to park his vehicle in a parking space when the vehicle would not stop and subsequently hit the curb and ran over a large boulder and century plant.” Deputy R.T. Bierwalter’s narrative states, “… the front bumper was damaged along with the two front tires were flat, the radiator was leaking fluid, the driveshaft was broken in half, the front suspension appeared to be damaged and the rear driver side quarterpanel appeared to have been creased.
Arpaio insists he did nothing wrong and the car was at fault, even though all evidence points to him stepping on the accelerator instead of the break pedal, catapulting the vehicle into the landscaping where a large boulder apparently stopped the car.
Why hasn’t anyone questioned Arpaio’s use of a county-owned vehicle for personal use? Why hasn’t anyone held Arpaio accountable for using a county-owned vehicle and county employees to attend political events, not just locally but in Gila County as well? Why has no one held Arpaio accountable for the money he collects autographing his famous pink underwear? Are tax dollars used to silk-screen his name in gold on those boxers? Where is the cash deposited? Why has no one required Arpaio to provide an explanation as to how he was able to purchase over $750,000 in real estate with cash? Why is Arpaio immune to accountability while others are indicted or go to prison for far less serious offenses? How high does the inmate death toll need to be and how much taxpayer money needs to be converted to his personal use before the attorney general investigates Arpaio? And, why does the legislature lay dormant when impeachment is within their grasp?...”

Follow the funny money.

Live in the Arapio’s jail. Read the entire thread.
Arapio’s tent city even houses people who are awaiting trial and might be innocent.
“…You don’t have to be a softy or an advocate of prisoners’ rights to become outraged at reports like these. We all want a sheriff who is tough on crime—and we don’t want our tax dollars to be spent on luxurious accommodations for inmates. Rest assured, the conditions in Maricopa County’s jails aren’t lavish, comfortable, or even tolerable. The temperatures inside Tent City often reach 120 degrees in the summer, and with only four guards for every thousand prisoners, Arpaio is cutting dangerous corners and endangering both inmates and detention officers. The sheriff brags that he spends more money feeding police dogs than he does inmates. The dogs, he argues, deserve better, since they haven’t done anything illegal. What’s important to remember is that Tent City doesn’t just house hardened criminals—it also houses people who are awaiting trial; people who haven’t been convicted or even accused of any crime. One young man spent four years in Arpaio’s jails before being released—and acquitted on all charges.  Arpaio boasts that he’s saving money by keeping inmates in these conditions, but the cost of humiliating inmates is beginning to skyrocket…”

WRONGFUL DEATH SUITS

“…The cost of all these lives lost has been immense for the families of the victims. Unfortunately, all this blood comes with a bill, too, and it’s tens of millions of dollars. So the next time Joe brags about how much money he’s saving us by cramming inmates into his sweltering dungeons where they eat green bologna, Consider this: when all of the cases pending against Arpaio settle, the wrongful death suits may have cost Maricopa County taxpayers more than fifty million dollars, and will continue to cost us even long after he’s out of office after these cases progress.  In fact, the debt Joe has straddled us with may well be his biggest legacy. It’s probably an easier pill to swallow if you’re in an air-conditioned penthouse in downtown Phoenix, but for Maricopa County taxpayers, the effects can be devastating. Currently, Arpaio is listed as the defendant in over fifteen hundred cases. Maricopa County taxpayers shouldn’t have to keep paying for the blood on Joe’s hands. …”

From the Sierra Times

“…This is not the first time Lawman Joe has cost the Maricopa taxpayers more than a nickel with his ‘velvet glove’ tactics. Data compiled by The Arizona Republic shows that lawsuits stemming from suicides and deaths in Maricopa County jails have cost taxpayers more than half a million dollars in the past five years. But what’s a few dead detainees among friends? Those numbers don’t include payments made by insurance companies.

Ah, but such is the price we have to pay to live in a free society.

In an unanimous decision, a three-judge panel upheld a $635,532 verdict against Arpaio for ignoring “grave risks to life and limb at Tent City.” They didn’t mention the county-sponsored crack cocaine production program Joe created to set up drug buyers a few years back. So a few people die in their detention centers. Who cares? So many court dates, so little time. And hey – this is our Joe. Maracopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio – Toughest Sheriff in America…”

As of 2005 there were 1,500 lawsuits against Arapio.
Do you know the Jimmy Saville story?
Would Arpaio get away with this in New Mexico?  Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano thinks not.
To be fair, the Intellectual Conservative paints a different picture of Arpaio.
There is Mother’s Against Arpaio
A profile of Arpaio – Mongral Magazine
From the Arapio Blog
Don Saban  ran against Arapio.  In an interview for the Arizona Conservative, he said,
”… DS: The critics are right; Joe continually spends our tax dollars on gimmicks and side shows which will bring him publicity in the public’s eye. Joe has had a minimum of 6,700 lawsuits filed against him and the sheriff’s office over the last 11 years. Joe’s common response is “that’s the cost of doing business.” Well, as a professional law enforcement executive, I disagree completely. The cost of doing business is running an effective and efficient agency. When a case is lost, whether you agree or not changes in policy and procedures have to be implemented immediately to ovoid additional tax payer loss. These cases have resulted in the liability insurance decidable to be raised from $1 million per case to $5 million. That’s $5 million tax payer first, then the insurance kicks in. My assessment of Joe’s tenure is one of mixed emotions. When he first took over office 11 years ago, I was very supportive of his ideas and willingness to make change to better the organization and the service they proved. However, during the last five or six years that support has turned to frustration and disbelief of what he’s doing. Case in point, the sheriff of this county should not be one of the deciding factors as to who our next governor should/will be. Joe has utilized his position as a self-promotion machine…”

THE IMMIGRATION BILL – The Extremely Well Organized Opposition

On Monday evening, my “Inbox” was hit with a number of email from various organizations trying to kill the immigration bill.  I am providing a sample for you.  For months I have been telling you these people are extremely well organized.  They claim to be Republican, but have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GOP.  They are using their claims of “Reagan Conservative” to manipulate and dupe anyone who will listen.  We’re talking Ron Paul people here, people who think we are evil, George W. Bush is the tool of the devil, and Giuliani is Satan’s Candidate!

GIULIANI IS A FAKE

Giuliani a Fake

by Charley Reese

“I judge from the applause at the most recent Republican presidential debate that the people in the audience at least still equate patriotism with supporting the war of the day.

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, the only intellectually honest candidate in the bunch, correctly pointed out that it was our policy of interventionism that caused the attack on 9/11.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, intensely uncomfortable at having been forced to talk about his liberal positions on abortion, gun control and gay rights, leaped at the opportunity to reprimand Paul for suggesting that we had invited the attack. “I’ve never heard that,” Giuliani snapped, showing that he is ignorant even on matters of security, and demanded that Paul retract it. He didn’t, of course. But Giuliani got a big round of applause, as if he had come to the defense of America rather than just cleverly change the subject.

Osama bin Laden, the author of those attacks, has said quite plainly, publicly and explicitly that the attack was prompted by our intervention in the Muslim world. It is outrageous that Giuliani claims not to know that, given that his whole campaign is based on his claim of being the best-qualified leader in matters of security and the so-called war on terror.

Actually, Giuliani isn’t an expert on security. He’s a lawyer and a political hack. The attack on 9/11 was a political gift of the gods to him. He walked up and down the street in front of the television cameras, gave speeches and went to funerals, and for that he received the accolades of the press.

Giuliani is not a leader. He is a cynical exploiter. He exploited the attack the day it happened, and he’s exploited it since to make a fortune posing as an expert security consultant. Now he hopes to exploit the tragedy, which, like the president, he had done nothing to prevent, to get the Republican nomination for the presidency.

By demonstrating his ignorance of the cause of the attack, he has disqualified himself from consideration.

Sad to say, Sen. John McCain of Arizona is not the man he was seven years ago. He’s gotten old, and in his old age has become an evader and an equivocator. He makes the same tired prediction of terrible consequences if we get out of Iraq, but he has no solutions except to do more of the same.

As for al-Qaida taking root in Iraq, he is apparently unaware of how the tribal sheiks in the western part of the country have annihilated al-Qaida in their region. One of the sheiks boasted recently, “We did in three months what the Americans haven’t been able to do in four years.” Trust me, al-Qaida will not survive our departure from Iraq, which is why al-Qaida, above all, wants us to stay.

The only ones who impressed me were Paul, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Duncan Hunter of California. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado came up with the best line of the night. Remarking on the liberals trying to become conservatives, he quipped, “There have been a lot of conversions tonight, but the only conversion I trust was the conversion on the road to Damascus, not the conversions on the road to Des Moines.” It got a good laugh. our presidential election system is broken. By front-loading the primaries, only multimillionaires can raise the money necessary to get well known. The lesser-known – and this year the more-qualified – men have an uphill struggle.

After you read this by Charlie Reese, if you consider voting for Giuliani as the “lesser of two weevils” in 2008, then you are part of the problem in this country.  Giuliani doesn’t get my vote, if the opponent is Satan himself, or Hillary, which may be worse.  When do we quit being frightened into voting for Socialist Party B?  Using the “good cop – bad cop” tactics, for many decades, the now completely phony “two party system” (which manages to act in concert to protect each other from the real alternative of third parties) has brought about the destruction of this country.

Jimmy Carter provided the first amnesty for illegal aliens, and promised it would never happen again.  It has happened one or twice since then, but this one, about to perpetrated by George W. Bush is of such a criminal magnitude that he should be tried for treason.

NB:  My criticism of the two major political parties in no way disparages the more-or-less honest citizens (however deluded) who work at the grass-roots levels to attempt to save this country through political activity.  They may be dupes, but there are many good people among them, in BOTH parties!”

“…A prime example is the recent PEW Research Survey that showed that 77 percent of the American people did not want an increase in legal immigration—yet the media refused to report it, or they manipulate the numbers. The fact is, if left unchecked, the media’s biased reporting, or non-reporting will undoubtedly sway the outcome of the immigration debate.

As the nation’s foremost media watchdog, The Media Research Center is committing our resources to neutralize the media’s overt attempt to mislead the nation and corrupt immigration reform. Additionally, the MRC is launching our EMERGENCY PETITION so tens of thousands of grassroots citizens can pressure the media into reporting and disclosing the real truth about the immigration debate. We must expose and hold the media accountable on this most vital issue, or the immigration battle will be lost!

Over the next 30 days, we expect to mobilize 250,000 citizens who share our passion for the truth—especially as it relates to the immigration debate. The MRC is using all of its resources in the coming days to shine the light on the immigration issue—exposing the bias, and naming names….”

CSN News is telling us that over 45,000 illegals from “terror nations” are living here, pretending to be Mexican, learning Spanish to “Pass” as Hispanic.  http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewSpecialReports.asp?Page=/SpecialReports/archive/200608/SPE20060808a.html

“…The so-called “catch and release” policies have allowed more than 45,000 illegal aliens from countries that are well known for their anti-American views or considered “hotbeds of Islamic fundamentalism” to be freed. U.S. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas), in conversations with sheriffs operating along the Texas-Mexico border, learned that illegal aliens of Middle Eastern descent have been able to blend into the culture south of the U.S. border and pass themselves off as Mexicans. “They learn Spanish and assimilate into the population,” Poe said. “Coming across the Canadian border they would be more conspicuous.”…” (ABJECT FEAR & RACISM)

Now I don’t know about you, but any idiot can tell the difference between someone of Hispanic background and someone from other countries and nationalities.  What a racist – they all look alike!

Then “Pastor” Chuck Baldwin is warning us in a News With Views Alert…http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin371.htm

I trust by now you can count the lies!  I am not even going to mark them.  Most of the information is coming out of Tanton based mis-information groups.

“…Hopefully, readers are aware that the Bush/Kennedy amnesty bill is being debated in the U.S. Senate this week with both the White House and senate leaders hopeful of quick passage. If it passes, the proposed immigration bill would immediately give all 12-20 million illegal aliens already in the United States “probationary” citizenship. It would also put an estimated 60 million immigrants on the path to citizenship over the next 20 years. In exchange for granting U.S. citizenship to tens of millions of illegals, (LIE) the bill promises to better protect America’s borders.

The plain truth is, President George W. Bush, Senators Ted Kennedy, John McCain, et al., are simply hell-bent to provide amnesty to tens of millions of illegal aliens, and this bill will give them the power to do it. (LIE)

Do I need to convince readers that any kind of amnesty will put America on the fast track to ruin? The United States simply cannot absorb upwards of 60 million, mostly unskilled, non-English-speaking, migrants in the next few years. It just is not possible. (LIE)

Already, America is reaping the consequences of unbridled illegal immigration. Americans are being squeezed out of work by illegal immigrants who will work at significantly reduced wages. Of course our unemployment is low: Americans are working two or three jobs just to make ends meet. (LIE)

Add to the strain of the loss of good paying jobs the strain of an ever-growing financial burden to taxpayers. For example, Heritage Foundation scholar Robert Rector recently released a new study entitled, “The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Households to the U.S. Taxpayer.” In the report, Rector notes that two-thirds of the millions of illegal aliens in this country fall into the category of “low-skill” households. Contrast that with just 10% of native-born Americans falling into that category.  Writing for National Review Online, Byron York states, “Rector found that in 2004, the most recent year for which figures are available, low-skill households received an average of $32,138 per household–the great majority in the form of means-tested aid and direct benefits…. Against that, Rector found that low-skill households paid an average of $9,689 in taxes…. In the final calculation, he found, the average low-skill household received $22,449 more in benefits than it paid in taxes…” (MANIPULATION OF FACTS)

According to World Net Daily, “If the lower figure of 12 million illegal aliens is used for estimation purposes, the [current] total tax burden translates to $2.2 trillion.” (MANIPULATION OF FACTS)

It doesn’t take a mathematical genius to calculate that with an added 60 million mostly unskilled immigrants moving into the country, the financial cost would be more than taxpayers could possibly pay for. (LIE)

Consider also the toll upon America’s safety and security. Already, law enforcement agencies are very much cognizant of a surge of Latin American “ultra-violent” gangs (MANIPULATION OF FACTS)that have sprung up in more than 40 U.S. states. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), one gang called MS-13 has been identified in 42 states. Another group called the 18th Street Gang is in 37 states. According to FBI MS-13 National Gang Task Force director Brian Truchon, “When the gang migrates throughout the U.S., there is always a road back to L.A. From L.A., there is always a road back to Central America.”

Retired lawman Jim Kouri recently wrote, “According to Lt. Steve Rogers, a decorated cop and award-winning writer, there are tens of thousands of murderers, rapists, child predators, robbers and drug dealers who are illegally in the United States. One study shows over 200,000 criminal aliens are preying on U.S. citizens.”

As I have previously noted in this column, illegal aliens already murder at least 12 Americans every day.  (LIE) Think of the potential violence that another 60 million aliens will bring. (ABJECT FEAR & RACISM)  Not to mention the threat of potential terrorism.

America’s law enforcement communities are keenly aware of the probability that international terrorists have already infiltrated the United States due to our lack of border control.

For example, William Gheen, President of Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee (ALIPAC), recently said, “MS-13 and other illegal immigrant gangs are bringing in the illegals, drugs, heavy weapons, and possibly terrorists. (LIE) The biggest threat from their members is contained in the multiple intelligence reports provided to Congress indicating that Al-Qaeda and MS-13 are now working together (LIE) to smuggle terrorist operatives and materials into the U.S.(LIE)

“…Learning About Immigration Policy From Mexico

May 16, 2007

Memo from Mexico: By Allan Wall allan39@prodigy.net.mx

VDARE.com

P.O. Box 1195

Washington, Connecticut 06793

http://www.vdare.com

To submit a Letter to the Editor: joeguzzardi@vdareedit.com

Almost everybody believes that the U.S.A. needs immigration reform. I’d like to propose that we study immigration systems in other countries, to see what we can learn from them.

It’s arrogant to assume that we Americans have all the answers, and that no other country can do anything better than we can.

Some of the biggest critics of our immigration policy are Mexicans. So let’s examine Mexico’s immigration policy and see what we can learn from it.

We might even decide that Mexico has some approaches to the issue that we could copy. Surely they wouldn’t object to that.

Would they?

How can we summarize Mexican immigration/nationality policies? Here’s how:

Mexico has an immigration system tailored to fit the interests of Mexico.

And what’s wrong with that?

The legal basis for Mexico’s immigration law is found in the Ley General de Población [the General Population Law]. PDF.

The cabinet-level department responsible for immigration is the Secretaria de Gobernación, loosely translated as the Interior Department.

According to Article 3, section VII of the General Population Law, the responsibility of this department is to

“Subject the immigration of foreigners to the methods it deems relevant, and to achieve the best assimilation of these [immigrants] to the national environment and their adequate distribution in [Mexican] territory.” [Sujetar la inmigración de extranjeros a las modalidades que juzgue pertinentes, y procurar la mejor asimilación de éstos al medio nacional y su adecuada distribución en el territorio.]

So the goals of Mexican immigration policy are assimilation and the distribution of immigrants throughout Mexican territory.

Mexico has had immigrants from many countries, from Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and even the U.S.A. And Mexico has done a good job in assimilating these immigrants. Part of it is because the immigration levels are so much lower than in the U.S., and partly because the Mexican system does indeed encourage assimilation.

According to Article 32 of the General Population Law,

“The Interior Department will establish, subject to the corresponding demographic studies, the number of foreigners whose entrance to the country may be permitted, whether by activities or zone of residence, and will subject to the methods that it deems relevant the immigration of foreigners, according to their possibilities of contributing to the national progress.”

So the Interior Department establishes immigration quotas based on the demographic situation of the country, and wants immigrants who will contribute to the development of the nation.

Article 34 even explains what kinds of immigrants Mexico is looking for:

“The Department of the Interior may establish for the foreigners who enter Mexico the conditions that it deems appropriate with respect to the activities to which they will engage in and the place or places of their residence. It will take care thusly that the immigrants shall be useful elements for the country and that they will have the necessary income levels for their subsistence… and of the persons who are under their economic dependence.”

“Useful elements”?” Necessary income levels?” It sounds as though Mexico is being rather choosy. Mexico wants immigrants who are (1) useful to Mexico and (2) who have enough income to take care of themselves and their families. How discriminatory!

OK, so what kinds of immigrants does Mexico not want? Well, that’s spelled out in the General Population Law, Article 37. It states that

“The Department of the Interior may deny to foreigners the entrance into the country or a change in immigration status for any of the following reasons:

I. When there is no international reciprocity.”

(What if we did that? What if we conditioned our immigration policy on how other countries took in our people—starting with Mexico?)

“II. When the national demographic equilibrium demands it.”

(When it doesn’t upset Mexico’s demographic equilibrium).

“III. When the quotas referred to in Article 32 of this law don’t permit it.”

(See Article 32 above).

IV. “When it is considered harmful to the economic interests of Mexicans.”

(Shouldn’t we also limit immigration if it’s harmful to the economic interests of ordinary Americans?)

V. When they (the immigrants) have broken the laws of Mexico or have criminal antecedents abroad.

(Mexico doesn’t want criminal immigrants).

VI. When they have broken this [immigration] law, its regulations or other applicable administrative orders in the matter, or if they don’t comply with the established requirements.

(What if we did that — instead of repeatedly amnestying illegals?)

VII. If they are not physically or mentally healthy in the judgment of the health authority, or are prevented by other legal orders.

And, just to make sure everything’s covered, Article 38 stipulates that

“The Department of the Interior is authorized to suspend or forbid the admission of foreigners, when it is determined to be in the national interest.”

That pretty much covers everything, does it not?

There are several myths and misunderstandings about Mexican immigration policy.

Many Mexicans think that Mexico has no immigration policy, that anybody can come into the country without any kind of visa.

I’ve been asked why the U.S. demands visas and Mexico doesn’t!

Reason: Few Mexicans have any contact with the Mexican immigration bureaucracy, the INM [Instituto Nacional de Migracion] and they’ve believed the rhetoric of the Open Door Mexico.

Some Americans think Mexico has a lax immigration system because it’s so easy for American tourists to enter Mexico.

Yes, it is easy. But the tourist only sees the tip of the iceberg.

Mexico has a whole range of immigration options. The tourist visa is just the easiest level.

The system is carefully designed to keep out paupers, to discriminate between citizens and non-citizens, and even to discriminate between native-born Mexicans and naturalized Mexicans.

Mexican immigration law recognizes several levels of immigration status. The most temporary status is that of no-inmigrante, which includes, tourists, transmigrants, visitors, religious workers, political asylees, refugees, students, distinguished visitors, local visitors, provisional visitors and journalists. All these individuals have the right to bring a spouse or children. But they are responsible for them.

A more permanent status is that of “inmigrante,” which includes rentistas (people with independent means), investors, professionals, certain administrators, scientists, technicians, artists, athletes, spouses and parents of Mexicans, and family members of such persons (once again, at the responsibility of the head of family).

After 5 years of being an “inmigrante”, one may pass to the level of “inmigrado” which is more permanent still.

There are restrictions on land ownership for foreigners, as I have pointed out before. There are ways to get around this, but when a foreigner buys or gets effective control of Mexican property, he waives his rights to the intervention of his country of citizenship in case of a land dispute. And I have never seen the U.S. government take any effective action to defend an American in Mexico in a land dispute.

As far as illegal immigration, the government of Mexico detains and deports over a quarter of a million illegals annually, most of them from Central American countries, which are poorer than Mexico. All Mexican police are required to enforce Mexican immigration law, and so does the Army, which has already militarized the northern border. [Vdare.com note: Mexico's northern border is, of course, American's southern border. Mexico has a southern border of its own, of course, and it faces pressure from further south.]

Mexican immigration officials don’t hesitate to use racial profiling. In a previous article, I reported how officials in the north of Mexico tried to deport Mexican Indians thinking they were Central Americans. And, in a recent case, Mexican police used tear gas to get some illegal aliens out of a trailer. What if our immigration officials did that?

Not only that, according to Article 67, any Mexican official who deals with a foreigner is responsible to verify the foreigner’s legal status as part of the transaction. The “sanctuary policy” practiced in so many U.S. cities would not get very far in Mexico.

When Lilia and I were married, here in Mexico, I had to ask permission of the Mexican government to marry her, and I had to prove I was here legally. Of course, I love my wife and so it was worth it. But just imagine, once again, what if the U.S. did that?

Legal foreigners living here in Mexico can pretty much do anything we want. We’re free to travel throughout Mexico to our heart’s content.

However, there are limits. It is strictly verboten for us to get mixed up in Mexican politics, even to march in a protest demonstration.

The Mexican constitution has a particular and well-known article which deals very clearly with the status and expectations of non-Mexicans in Mexico. It’s the famous Article 33:

Article 33—Foreigners are those who do not possess the qualities determined in Article 30. They have the right to the guarantees of Chapter I of the first title of this Constitution, but the Executive of the Union has the exclusive right to expel from the national territory, immediately and without necessity of judicial proceedings, all foreigners whose stay it judges inconvenient. Foreigners may not, in any manner, involve themselves in the political affairs of the country.

Articulo 33.

Contrast that with the U.S.’s impossible deportation procedures, as chronicled by Juan Mann!

Article 43 of the General Law of Population (Ley General de Población) states that:

“The admission to the country of a foreigner obliges him to strictly comply with the conditions established for him in the immigration permit and the dispositions established by the respective laws.”

Americans and other foreigners are regularly expelled for overstepping these bounds. In 2002, 18 gringos were expelled for participating in May Day marches. Later in the same year, five American citizens were expelled for participating in a demonstration demanding the release of some campesinos.

In contrast, the U.S. allows even illegal aliens to march openly in the streets demanding their “rights.”

Does the U.S. need an Article 33?

Mexico’s citizenship laws are spelled out in the legal corpus known as the Ley de Nacionalidad. PDF

In order to become a citizen, the applicant must renounce his home country citizenship, demonstrate that he speaks Spanish, knows Mexican history and has assimilated to Mexican life.

[VDARE.COM note: A previous Mexican Government had a very bad experience with some Texans who failed to assimilate. Remember the Alamo?]

And he must have lived in Mexico for 5 years.

Certain classes of people, however, can get citizenship in less than 5 years. For example, an immigrant married to a Mexican, or parent of a Mexican child, can get it in 2 years. An adoptee can get it in 1 year.

And note this: Other preferences are based upon ancestry or country of origin. An immigrant of Mexican ancestry gets a preference and only has to wait two years. Immigrants from Latin America or the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) only have to wait 2 years for citizenship.

All other things being equal, this would give an immigrant from Spain a preference over an immigrant from Germany, an immigrant from Argentina preference over an American, and a Mexican-American would have preference over an Anglo-American.

Hmmm! What would happen if the U.S. gave preference to immigrants from the British Isles, Canada, and Australia? I imagine they’d call us racists. But it’s a fact: Mexico gives preference to persons of Mexican ancestry, other Latin Americans and Spaniards.

In the U.S.A., a naturalized citizen can do almost anything that a natural-born citizen can do, except be president (and some people even want to change that).

But in Mexico, naturalized citizens are limited from many positions government positions, which are spelled out in the Mexican Constitution. A naturalized Mexican citizen can never serve in the military during peacetime, can never be a policeman, and can never be a pilot, captain or crew member on any vessel or aircraft bearing a Mexican insignia. (Article 32) And a naturalized Mexican can never be in charge of a port or airport.

A naturalized Mexican can never be president (Article 82), just as in the U.S.

But he can also never be in the Mexican Congress (unlike ours) (Articles 55 and 58), can never be on the Supreme Court (article 95), and never be a governor of a Mexican state (Article 116) nor serve in the legislature or as mayor of Mexico City (Article 122) .

The truth of the matter is, no matter how well-assimilated a naturalized Mexican is, he will always be a sort of second-class citizen.

And, while a natural-born Mexican can never be stripped of his citizenship, a naturalized Mexican can be (Constitution Article 37).

A naturalized Mexican citizen could lose his citizenship by acquiring another nationality, working for a foreign government without permission, accepting titles or decorations from a foreign government or helping a foreigner or foreign nation in a diplomatic dispute or before an international tribunal.

Hmmm again. In other words, the kind of thing a lot of our Latino officials do all the time. But Mexican law flatly prohibits that sort of thing.

If it’s good for the goose, isn’t it good for the gander?

Bottom line: Although the Mexican elite constantly attacks U.S. immigration policy, Mexico’s own system is stricter, and explicitly focused on the interests of Mexico.

There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s their country. But our officials should not be intimidated one whit when scolded by Mexicans about immigration.

In fact, we ought to turn the tables and ask Mexico about its own immigration policy. And, frankly, we would be wise to import many aspects of Mexican immigration policy ourselves!

Immigration Bill To Collect American Info

By Elliott West, Raleigh Chronicle News Editor

WASHINGTON DC – Although a new immigration bill that was passed by the United State Senate last year chiefly addresses illegal immigration, some components of the bill will definitely benefit the Internal Revenue Service and other government agencies by tracking all sources of wages and compensation by American workers, even those who are legally American citizens.

The Immigration Bill Status

The controversial Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 was already passed by the Senate in late April of 2006 and another version of the bill could soon be voted on by the full Congress if a deal is reached among legislators.

Senators Ted Kennedy (D-Mass) and John McCain (R-Ariz) announced on May 17th that a Senate agreement to push the bill again had been reached, after efforts last year failed.  Both NC Senator Richard Burr (R) and Elizabeth Dole (R) voted against the much-debated bill last year.

The then-Republican controlled House did not follow up on the Senate version passed last year, since many opposed the illegal immigrant amnesty provisions of the bill.  Some political pundits say the immigration reform act will be hard pressed to gain passage in the House again this year despite a change in party control.

It should be noted that if members of the House and Senate modify the bill through a compromise, some text of the final bill passed by both houses may change.

Mandatory Registration

However, as it stands, the bill would make it illegal to hire anyone for any work in the US for paid wages, unless both the worker and employer complete the new registration requirements, including providing the employee’s work history for the past five years even if they are American citizens each time they apply for a job.

“It is unlawful for an employer…to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an individual unless such employer meets the requirements of subsections (c) and (d),” says the bill referring to the new document rules and “electronic verification”

systems.

The new $400 million “employment verification” component of the extensive bill would add new electronic registration requirements for all American citizens who do work for compensation and even American employers as well.

As it stands, the new bill would require all employers to “register”

with the federal government and report the data for new employees to the government within three days of hiring them.

As such, the bill would fill in one of the last gaps in the government’s tracking of wages, by making it a potential criminal or civil offense not to inform the government that a worker is receiving compensation of some sort, under the rubric of national security.

According to Section 274A of the version of the bill passed by the Senate in 2006, no employer would be exempt from having to register with the government and also having to verify the status of each of their new employees.  The new requirements would go into effect 18 months after the electronic verification system has been created.

“The Secretary shall require all employers in the United States to participate in the System,” says the text of the bill.

Collecting Data On US Workers

Although future details may change, even hiring your neighbor’s kid Johnny to mow your lawn could become a long and detailed process and if you didn’t follow the rules, you could get a knock at your door from Homeland Security.

First, you would have to register as a employer under the program and then call a 1-800 number with several items of information about the potential new employee (even if they have proper ID or an American passport).

Each time an employer hires someone, they would have to phone in (1) their own EIN or social security number if they are an individual (2) the social security number of the new employee (3) the state of birth of the new employee (4) the EIN number or social security number of every single place the new employee has worked in the last five years (5) and the date of birth and address for the potential new employee.

Then you’ll need to wait up to 10 days to receive an answer about whether or not Johnny is approved for work in the US.

Be sure to save the authorization codes given to you by the government if he is approved and also save all of the paperwork for three years or you could have to pay a large fine.

Even if you hired him for only one day’s worth of work, you’ll need to save his application forms and approval codes for at least one year, says the bill.

And don’t forget, under the new proposals, be prepared to give Johnny your own social security number so that he can use it the next time he applies for a job — he’ll need it under the new law for the next five years each time he applies for a job.

That provision will certainly help the government in making sure that they know not only where he worked this year, but everywhere else he has worked too.

Hopefully, no one that you hire will steal your identity in the process even though they have your social security number.

All of the information is to be housed in a database created by the Social Security Administration that will be shared with the Department of Homeland Security, which has the authority to initiate investigations into all employers who don’t participate in the system, including those who pay Johnny to mow their lawn.

The Department of Homeland Security can receive “taxpayer identity information of each person [from a report which]…contains evidence of such person’s failure to register and participate in the Electronic Employment Verification System.”

As such, they can initiate an investigation into any person who doesn’t comply with the mandatory electronic reporting system whether they are an employer or employee.

In a similar version of the bill seen in 2005, Homeland Security would have been able to investigate any employee unlucky enough to have two different companies call in with the same social security number.

However, it seems that in the new version, it was realized that some people actually have more than one job as that text has been eliminated.

Of course, the government will only use the information for its intended purpose — to stop illegal workers from getting jobs.

“The System shall collect and maintain only the minimum data necessary to facilitate the successful operation of the System,” says the bill’s text.

However, as stated earlier, a provision in the bill indicates that other branches of the government may benefit from the new database as well.

“Nothing…may be construed to limit the collection, maintenance, or use of data by the Commissioner of Internal Revenue or the Commissioner of Social Security as provided by law,” says the proposed law.

As seen before in Washington DC, there may be collection of data for a stated purpose — in this case to fight illegal immigration — but it seems evident that the opportunity to collect of data on US citizens is not going to be passed up.

If the bill passes, the most basic and private personal information about where American citizens work, their past work history, their birthdays and social security numbers will be called in to the government every time they apply for a job.

Hello deleted name

Last week, I asked you to call on your state’s senators and as many other senators as you had time to call. The purpose was to urge them not to vote for any sort of amnesty. So far so good, any action on the senate bill was delayed until today sometime.

What we need now is another deluge of calls to reinforce that Americans do NOT want any form of amnesty. So below is the same set of priorities that we sent out in our last email to this effect.

In this email, we are asking that you make as many phone calls as you possibly can. As a reminder, this is our primary focus right now until we have defeated any and all amnesty proposals this year.

1) We ask that you begin with your two U.S. Senators. Usually they have many offices around the state. Call every office of each of your two senators. Find the senators’ local offices from their home pages which can be found from
www.Senate.gov.

2) Then call the senators on the list below until you run out of time.
Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX)
Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
Trent Lott (R-MS)
Ben Nelson (D-NE)
Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)
Craig Thomas (R-WY)

3) Continue with any other Republican Senators

4) Followed up by any other Democratic Senators

You can contact any of these Senators’ D.C. offices by calling the toll-free switchboard at 1-866-340-9281.

You should review the following article by Michelle Malkin to get all your pistons firing first:

Good luck, team! This is a critical time. Make your calls count.

Keep up the fight!

Someone is Sleeping in My Bed and Eating My Porridge
These uninvited guests want us to feed them, but they are unwilling to pay for anything. One of them is having a baby soon and would like us to pay the costs because they do not have insurance. They told us that they are entitled to healthcare simply because they are living in our house. They said that because they are in our house we are responsible for their well-being and their children’s education, and they require us to communicate with them in their native language…….

Media Back Amnesty Bill
Andy Selepak
In order to counteract Big Media support for the amnesty-for-illegals bill, Congress needs to hear from the American people. The Washington Post, in an editorial, calls the Bush-Kennedy bill a “breakthrough.” Yet, by the admission of the White House, it commits the U.S. to finishing only 370 miles of the border fence.

Tens of Thousands of Criminal Aliens Invade US; The Senate Lie of Immigration Reform
Jim Kouri
It’s old news that Presidente Vicente Fox exported Mexico’s poorest citizens into the United States for a number of reasons: It relieved him of the responsibility of providing social and healthcare services for them; it provides his country’s economy with an influx of US cash when these illegal workers send money the earn in the US back home; and it defuses problems with far-left groups who are usually successful in using the poor to advance their political agenda.

Washington, DC: Immigration will be political football
Ron Fournier
One of the nation’s most vexing political and social issues — how to deal with millions of illegal immigrants — can be solved only if Congress and the White House embrace the same can-do spirit that marked last week’s tentative deal. Don’t count on it.

Utah: Points system a good start for nation’s immigration debate
Todd Seifert
Liberals and conservatives in the Senate joined together last week to introduce a comprehensive immigration bill that is certain to throw gasoline on an already fiery debate. After years of talking about the nation’s growing illegal immigration problem, lawmakers finally got together and put something on paper that at least could give some structure to the debate.

‘Shadow Wolves’ Prowl the U.S.-Mexico Border In an era of unmanned drones, night-vision goggles and wireless sensors, Sloan Satepauhoodle scours the desert along the Mexican border for drug smugglers in the old ways. She is a tracker, a former Secret Service agent and customs inspector in Washington who traded in her desk and computer to work “intel” in the desert, employing sign-cutting — or tracking — skills once used by her Kiowa ancestors to hunt animals. Satepauhoodle (pronounced SAY-paw-who-dle) roams this vast Indian reservation in a four-wheel-drive pickup, armed with an M-4 rifle and a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol. Her job: to look for the tiniest sign that a smuggler has been around and then go after him. High-tech has arrived at the border, but low-tech is very much in use by a special group of federal agents whose sign-cutting skills are being used in the fight against drugs. They are called Shadow Wolves, a small all-Native American group of drug interdiction officers that includes three women, including Satepauhoodle, 40. Her Kiowa name means “Kill the Bear” or “Fuzzy Bear,” depending on the pronunciation and the context in which it is used….

An Advocate Rallies to Unify GOP on Immigration Immigration policy is one of the few issues that split conservatives and the business lobby. It’s the “shut the borders” pack vs. the “we need workers” crowd. Conservative activist Tamar Jacoby has dedicated herself to bringing the two together. The outcome could determine whether key conservative members of Congress stand back and allow an overhaul of immigration law this year. Jacoby has been busy. She has helped to light a fire under previously disengaged business owners in places such as Texas, Arizona and Colorado, where immigrants — legal and illegal — are a large part of the workforce. She has flown to those states to hold policy briefings and to encourage employers to tell their tales to conservative lawmakers in Washington. She talks daily to small-business owners. “The most important thing is the temporary-worker program,” Jacoby told them. Lawmakers “are going to go all out to cut it in half and unless business goes all out, like D-Day, they will surely win.” Ray Prewett, who lives in Mission, Tex., and runs a trade group for citrus farmers, leaned in. Without enough immigrant workers “all the farms will move to Mexico,” said Prewett, who was preparing to meet with Sen. John Cornyn (R). The senator has said that he has serious concerns about the immigration deal, and last year he voted against comprehensive restructuring. “We need to go into these offices and say we need this now. . . . We know they won’t vote for it, but we have to tell them not to stand in the way,” Prewett said. That is the kind of argument that could ultimately win the votes to revise the immigration law, lobbyists pushing to pass a bill say….

IMMIGRATION REFORM

Many were shocked and stunned by the footage showing pro-illegal alien demonstrators cheer and taunt as police grab a man who stuck his middle finger up at the marchers, before slamming his face into the concrete. But why should we be? Illegal aliens are a protected underclass and they are seemingly above the law.

The video shows pro-illegals screaming and cheering with glee as the cops manhandle someone who dare voice an opposing opinion, while other passers-by vandalize the man’s car and verbally taunt him.

In any other case, an individual interfering with an arrest would immediately be confronted and possibly arrested by police, but not in this instance, because illegal aliens are above the law.

Aliens have already broken the law by entering the country without permission – they are already criminals, but instead of being treated as such, they are exalted to a God-like status where they are outside of the laws that govern the rest of us.

Illegal aliens are not required to have insurance or a drivers license and when police pull them over and they can’t speak English the cops just let them go. This is commonly accepted and we have talked directly to police who have admitted the fact that they are ordered to release illegal aliens. It’s one law for American citizens and another for the precious illegals.

Illegal aliens can now cash checks, get credit cards and open bank accounts without a social security number or any other documentation besides an easily obtained card from the government of a different country, yet American citizens are shunned if they don’t have all their papers in order. Organizations like Bank of America reward criminals for entering the country illegally and give them a clear incentive to stay.

This isn’t an issue of race or affording leniency to minorities, it’s a matter of deciding if the law should apply to everyone who resides in the United States or whether certain segments of the population should be exempt from it and allowed to commit crime without punishment.

But don’t worry, because the Bush administration has a solution for dealing with criminals that have already broken the law by entering the country illegally – simply legalize them all with a mass amnesty program! This is akin to a city Mayor dealing with a rash of shootings by legalizing murder. Eradicate the crime by just taking it off the books!

Meanwhile, border agents who attempt to apprehend drug smugglers attempting to sneak into the United States are jailed and subsequently beaten for violating the illegal alien’s civil rights! This is the message the Bush administration sends to the border patrol – if you do your job then you’ll get punished for it.

Why are illegal aliens who have already broken the law and are criminals lavished and coddled by the government and large corporations, while American citizens – be they white, black, or hispanic, are pushed around, surveilled and lectured by Big Brother?

The plan is to piggy back the agenda to merge the U.S., Mexico and Canada into a North American Union onto the openly stated invasion – the Aztlan reconquista and the radical annexation of the American south-west.

Aztlan radicals subscribe to a bizarre liberation theology that the southern and western states are their ancestral homeland and that they are justified in launching a violent and bloody separatist war, including the ethnic cleansing of blacks and whites, to re-conquer this territory.

Their motives overlap with the global elite who steer and control them – the destruction of U.S. sovereignty and the excuse for a total lockdown police state once rioting and race war ensues.

This is why rampant illegal immigration and the protection of illegal criminals who have entered the U.S. is a deliberate policy of the criminal corporation that has hijacked the U.S. government.

This is why illegal aliens are above the law. “

PART I Do We Really Want Tom Tancredo Running for POTUS on Any GOP Ticket?

Yesterday, I found some gossip that Tom Tancredo was planning to announce his White House run in Iowa.  I want to state up front that I did not start out to have personal vendetta against Tancredo, but unfortunately, I see very few people trying to expose his agenda.  So, I am.  This man cannot be allowed to become the President of the United States of America.  There are several reasons, all of which will become apparent as you read through the information I am presenting here.  First, he is not a stable individual.  Secondly, he has some very tawdry little associates.  It is an old internet joke that sooner or later every argument is going to lead to either Hitler or the Nazis and the first one to mention it loses credibility.  Unfortunately Tancredo has some very questionable supporters and associates.  I DO NOT know if they are intentional associated, sought-after and cultivated, or if Tancredo’s brand of bigotry and racism simply brings the bad actors out of the woodwork.  The problem is these associations do exist, either by purpose or accident.  In all fairness all politicians attract a certain element that isn’t exactly socially acceptable.  We must not fault them for this.  There are people in this world who are just plain unacceptable politically.

The problem is the fact that people believe what they want to believe.  Everyone simply laughs when presented with the pedigree of some of some of the organizations and the individuals involved with them.  I don’t even know if this will make a difference.  I hope it does.

Neo-Nazi connections to anti-immigration movement.

John Tanton is one of Tancredo’s most loyal supporters.

Tancredo’s associates.

MIAMIGATE

In November, Tancredo called Miami a Third World Country.

Under the I love it category, little Tommy Tancredo is back again!  This time he called Miami a third world!  I think we can now prove his anti-Hispanic racism.  I’m loving it.

“…In South Florida to attend Restoration Weekend, a gathering of conservative activists, the Colorado Republican, whose district includes suburbs of Denver, pointed to Miami as an example of how ”the nature of America can be changed by uncontrolled immigration,” the story says….The remarks drew an instant rebuke from Miami Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who called Tancredo ”flat out wrong” and extended an invitation for him to come and judge the city for himself….”I invite my friend, Tom, to visit beautiful Miami, my hometown, and experience firsthand our hospitality,” Ros-Lehtinen said. “Come on down, Tom, the water’s fine!” Miami, Ros-Lehtinen said, is a “world-class city where diversity is celebrated. Here people have the opportunity to meet folks from across the globe and honor different cultures. Miami-Dade County is home to many outstanding universities, is headquarters to international businesses and has a vibrant economy.”…”While a recent documentary comparison of Miami-Dade County to Baghdad was a bit of an overstatement,” he wrote, referring to an Australian documentary, “no one can argue that it is not one of America’s most dangerous areas.”… He noted in the e-mail that the number of homicides in the county recently reached 200 for the year. The number is actually a decrease from the 1980s….”Moreover, the sheer size and number of ethnic enclaves devoid of any English and dominated by foreign cultures is widespread,” Tancredo said in the statement. “Frankly, many of these areas could have been located in another country. And until America gets serious about demanding assimilation, this problem will continue to spread.”…Tancredo didn’t visit Miami on the Nov. 18-19 trip, but has visited before, a spokesman said. And, if Ros-Lehtinen’s invitation includes ”a stay at a five-star beachfront resort, he may be willing to look beyond the inherent dangers that he had cited and visit Miami again,” his spokesman said….”He is going to do what he can to create a place where the idea of America is just that — it’s an idea,” Tancredo said. “It’s not an actual place defined by borders. I mean this is where this guy is really going.”

heart, is now insisting Miami is the murder capital of the US!  I have an idea this is what set off the WND little RIGHT truth piece.

“...During an interview with U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) about his controversial comments equating Miami to a “Third World country,” the November 28 broadcast of KMGH’s 7News Now at 4 p.m. aired Tancredo’s false claim that Miami is the “murder capital of the world.” In fact, according to the most recent figures from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a number of U.S. cities with populations of at least 250,000 have significantly higher murder rates than Miami. Tancredo also claimed during the broadcast that his comments “ha[ve] nothing to do with race.” However, Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinosa told The Denver Post that the congressman’s statements about Miami being a “Third World country” were in reference to Miami’s Haitian-American population, which is predominantly black….”

Tancredo Watch has finally picked up on TT’s latest FIM (Foot in Mouth) bluder where he compared Miami to a Third World Country.  The President’s brother, the Governor of Florida, commented, “What a nut!”

“…Florida Gov. Jeb Bush called a Colorado congressman “a nut” Wednesday after the fellow Republican likened Miami to a Third World country. “What a nut,” Bush told reporters in Tallahassee. “I’m just disappointed. First of all, he’s from my own party. He’s a Republican. He doesn’t represent my views or the views of most Republicans in this state.Miami is a beautiful place. … I love Miami,” Bush said. “It’s insulting for someone who really doesn’t know the community, its heartbeat, to say those things.”

The public spat began 10 days ago when U.S. Rep. Thomas Tancredo was attending a gathering of conservative activists at The Breakers in Palm Beach and said in an interview with WorldNetDaily, a conservative online newspaper: “Look at what has happened to Miami. It has become a Third World country. “You just pick it up and take it and move it someplace. You would never know you’re in the United States of America. You would certainly say you’re in a Third World country.” Tancredo chairs the bipartisan House Immigration Reform Caucus and led House efforts this year to authorize a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

His comment brought a letter Tuesday from Bush to the congressman in which he called Miami a “wonderful city filled with diversity and heritage that we choose to celebrate, not insult.” Bush wrote that Florida’s diversity is the reason it leads the nation in creating jobs, and he noted that Miami’s crime rate has declined annually since 1999. “Perhaps your naive comments served as a good reminder for everyone to lessen the anger, frustration and emotion surrounding the issue of immigration,” Bush wrote. “Overheated rhetoric won’t solve this issue. We need a comprehensive solution that will require cooler heads to prevail.” In a note at the bottom of his letter, Bush said he hoped Tancredo would accept an offer from U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami, urging him to visit the city.

Tancredo responded Wednesday in a letter to Bush, saying he understood why the governor was trying to “create the illusion of Miami as a multiethnic ‘All American’ city.” But Tancredo said it was “neither naive nor insulting to call attention to a real problem that cannot be easily dismissed through politically correct happy talk.” He added, “Unfortunately, fewer and fewer Miamians think of themselves as Americans.”…”

Then there is this column by Jim DeFede

“…MIAMI When I first heard that Representative Tom Tancredo called Miami a Third World Country, my first reaction was to laugh and say, ‘Well yeah, tell me something I don’t know.’

I mean, driving in some neighborhoods, you’re just as likely to accidentally hit a chicken with your car as a dog.

But the more I thought about Tancredo’s comments, the angrier I got. It’s okay when we refer to ourselves as a Third World Country, but I don’t like the idea of some xenophobic Congressman from Colorado calling us a Third World country.

It’s like with family. You can make fun of your brothers and sisters all you want, but woe be the outsider that says anything unkind about your siblings.

And let’s not kid ourselves, when Tancredo called Miami a third world country, that was code for brown skinned people. His point is that illegal immigration has ruined Miami. He argues that if you come to Miami it won’t feel like you are in America anymore.

Well here’s an update: Miami looks a heck of a lot more like America than the affluent suburbs of Denver that Tancredo represents.

Miami is a city of dreams. People risk their lives to come here because they want to be a part of America, they want the freedom, the opportunity this country offers.

Tancredo derides Miami as a town in which immigrants refuse to assimilate and won’t speak English. I know this is a popular view, even locally among bitter old-timers, but it is simply not true
. …”

And over at World Nut Daily, TT is once again dissing Miami

“…In the original interview with WND, Tancredo also said President Bush believes America should be more of an idea than an actual place, claiming the president sought to merge the U.S. with Mexico and Canada into a North America Union….

“People have to understand what we’re talking about here. The president of the United States is an internationalist,” Tancredo had said. “He is going to do what he can to create a place where the idea of America is just that – it’s an idea. It’s not an actual place defined by borders. I mean this is where this guy is really going.”

Tancredo lashed out at the White House’s lack of action in securing U.S. borders, and said efforts to merge the U.S. with both Mexico and Canada is not a fantasy.

“I know this is dramatic – or maybe somebody would say overly dramatic – but I’m telling you, that everything I see leads me to believe that this whole idea of the North American Union, it’s not something that just is written about by right-wing fringe kooks. It is something in the head of the president of the United States, the president of Mexico, I think the prime minister of Canada buys into it. …

“And they would just tell you, ‘Well, sure, it’s a natural thing. It’s part of the great globalization … of the economy.’ They assume it’s a natural, evolutionary event that’s going to occur here. I hope they’re wrong and I’m going to try my best to make sure they’re wrong. But I’m telling you the tide is great. The tide is moving in their direction. We have to say that.” …”

This is something from back in October when Tancredo was in a fight with a credible Dem opponant. The Pink Flamingo, Oct. 6

Maybe we ain’t heard nutin’ yet.  If the Colorado Confidential is correct, fasten you seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.  Today the Rocky Mountain News reports that Tancredo had his primary opponant (Republican I might add) illegaly detained...it’s okay guys, the man is Mexican, so it doesn’t matter. We all know Tancredo and his bunch don’t give a rip about Mexicans.  It’s the new “In” Racism.

This is good dodo!  According to the Rocky Mountain News.  This may be the next big GOP Scandal. (Article in full)

“U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo told Capitol police last spring he felt threatened by a news release distributed by write-in candidate Juan Botero, who wound up facing a squad of armed officers and being detained and questioned for four hours. Botero accused his fellow Republican on Wednesday of overreacting. “It was very intimidating, there is no question about that,” said Botero, a media consultant and former TV cameraman. “He (Tancredo)crossed the line on this.” On May 11, Botero sent the Washington press corps a release urging them to investigate Tancredo, whom he is opposing in the 6th Congressional District election. He also sent a copy of the statement to Tancredo’s office. “I can be a reasonable guy, but if my colleagues don’t play by the rules, I have what it takes to get them to wake up and do their job,” Botero wrote. “If you know anything about the training by Colombian Commandos, you will know that underneath a soldier’s suave demeanor, there is a fierce and highly trained warrior that can overwhelm you if you’re not careful,” he continued. “I hope that I don’t have to go to the next level in this process, but I am running out of options and patience with every passing minute of media silence.” Botero said those comments were directed to the media, but that Tancredo took them as a threat against him.

Botero said he initially was contacted by telephone at his Washington hotel May 12 and was told by a “Secret Service agent” that he was under investigation and could face a decade in prison for an alleged threat against Tancredo. When he met the agent on a Washington sidewalk the following Monday, Botero said, 10 armed, uniformed officers approached him, asked if he was armed, then searched him and his belongings. Botero said he later was taken to Capitol police headquarters, locked in a guarded room and interviewed while the agency ran a background check that resulted in a 3-inch thick file. “I was interrogated for about four hours,” Botero said. “I was told that I was being investigated because he (Tancredo) said I was a threat to him physically. I was completely humiliated. I had never had a brush with law enforcement in my life.”

Capitol police confirmed Wednesday that Botero was detained, but would not comment on his account of the incident. “Much of the information you are asking me about is something we don’t discuss only because it’s very sensitive,” said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, Capitol police spokeswoman. “We don’t routinely discuss cases that we have working or closed within the Capitol Police.”Tancredo would not comment. After Botero questioned why Tancredo refused to participate in a 6th Congressional District candidate forum Wednesday, Tancredo’s campaign manager, Jacque Ponder, issued a written statement that alludes to Botero’s run-in with police. “Neither Tom nor anyone from our organization will participate in any event at which Mr. Botero is present. Mr. Botero’s past behavior and statements have influenced this decision.” Botero said Capitol police told him to return to Denver, avoid contact with Tancredo and to check in with them on a regular basis.  The case, he said, eventually was closed in September.”

The Colorado Confidential has been on TT’s back for refusing to debate  his opponant Bill WinterSquare State has connected the dots.

On October 24 I reported that Tancredo had hired illegal workers. It isn’t a biggie, just fun.

FYI – Progress Now is reporting that TT hired illegal workers to do some work on his house a few years ago.  Just thought you  might enjoy the little ironic pause in this crazy mixed up election period.

Tancredo is the gift that just keeps on giving.  On Christmas Day I posted this one over at The Pink Flamingo.

Maybe he just can’t help it.  Maybe his racism is showing.  Now Tancredo wants businesses to scale back on marketing to Hispanics in Spanish.    Once again he proves he knows absolutely nothing about business.  He also proves he is as regulation hungry as the most dedicated Dem.

“…U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., who has helped lead the push for tougher immigration laws, wishes companies would scale back Spanish marketing but doubts they will ever suffer a public backlash for it.  “My task in the Congress is not to make sure that any industry has a robust bottom line,” Tancredo said. “Likewise, their job isn’t to oversee the assimilation process in America…”

On September 21 I reported that Tancredo had joined God as one of the Pope’s advisors.

I’m going to leave the latest posting on the Tancredo Watch to the Pondering American.  It’s a Pope thing.  He can deal with this one.  Bottom line, TT is now advising the Pope…yep.  Square State has the best quip:  “God and Tancredo Advise Pope.  Pope Mostly Ignores Tancredo”  Okay, it’s the best quip of the month, thus far!

Sept 23 we exposed Tancredo’s KKK supporters.

Okay, today, September 23, 2006, you heard it here first – I will now predict that Tom Tancredo will officially call for the impeachment of George W. Bush.  Why you might ask?  Well…he’s going to need to divert attention away from himself and his hand picked protegeRandy Graf who has now been officially endorsed by none other than David Duke!

I just murdered an absolutely incredible post.  I’m going to try and reconstruct it.  I can’t believe what I’ve done.

Today is one of those wonderful days.  It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood….All you know what is going to break lose over this one.  And – I love it.  There are rumors that the Bin Ladin is dead, but the reports of his death have been greatly….well, you know.  So, we will just keep fingers crossed and hope for the best.  It is all well and good that Whitney Houston may have lost her biggest fan, but life sometimes sucks.  But not today!

What a day.

GOP Progress has just broken the story that Randy Graf, the hand picked protege of widdle Tommie Tancredo, has been endorsed by none other than David Duke.  I’ve been telling you – for months (at The Subway Canaries), as has the Pondering American and Called As Seen .  In Human Events Tancredo Wrote..

“…Graf’s biggest obstacle to victory in November will not be his Democrat opponent, but the damaged egos of the Republicans who backed Kolbe’s hand-picked candidate.  They have threatened to pick up their marbles and go home.  The national Republican Party encouraged and legitimized this temper tantrum by funding Huffman in the primary. They need to step forward and tell the Kolbe faction in Tucson what Barry Goldwater told the conservatives at the National Republican Convention in Chicago in 1960: “Grow up!” Graf was the voters’ choice in the party’s primary, and the Republican big wigs in Washington should give Graf the financial support needed to win.  Whether the wounds of a bitter primary can be healed before November 7 all depends on which goal these party blue bloods take more seriously—keeping this congressional seat in Republican hands or punishing the man who challenged Kolbe and beat him. The “Graf can’t win” slogan always did ring hollow, and now it sounds merely petulant. Most voters can remember when that was said of Ronald Reagan’s candidacy in 1980.  Like Reagan, Randy Graf may have one more surprise in store for those slow  learners in Washington….”

Okay, so Graf has denied the story and asked Duke to remove the offending link.  The Lone Donkey is having a field day with it, and has some wonderful photos.  LOL!

Now the fun part begins.  Please keep the Tancredo Human Events piece in mind as you read this from Graf’s home site.  It gushes about Graf’s meeting with Melhman, etc (every candidate does that after winning the primary).

“…Among those who Randy met with and who promised help were Republican Party leaders in the US House of Representatives and Ken Mehlman, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. House leaders who pledged their support in meetings with Randy Graf include Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri, Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, Deputy Majority Whip Tom Feeney of Florida, Republican Study Committee Chairman Mike Pence of Indiana, and NRCC Chairman Thomas M. Reynolds of New York. Each of these national party and Congressional leaders offered their support and many gave financial contributions to the Randy Graf for Congress campaign. Along with the support of national Republican leaders, Randy has received the support and endorsements of Senator Jon Kyl, and Congressmen Jeff Flake, Trent Franks, J.D. Hayworth, Rick Renzi, and John Shadegg of Arizona…”

Now, guess what has happened?  Well, the GOP has withdrawn support for Graf by pulling at least a million dollars in commercials from his district.

“…The Republican Party canceled about $1 million in advertising support for Randy Graf, a blow to his chances of winning the congressional race in southern Arizona. Graf, a conservative who has campaigned mainly on a platform of zero tolerance for illegal immigration, vowed through campaign manager R.T. Gregg to go it alone if necessary in the district once considered one of the most competitive in the nation. The ad pullback means Republicans recognize Graf’s Democratic opponent, Gabrielle Giffords, has “broad bipartisan support” across the district, which runs from Tucson to the Mexican border, a Giffords spokesman said…”

I’ve been saying for months that the whole anti-immigration thing is going to come back to haunt the GOP.  This is a DEM press release from US Newswire.  Tancredo’s meddling has caused a problem.  At least his nasty little associates have been exposed.

“To: National Desk, Political Reporter

Contact: Stacie Paxton of the DNC, 202-863-8148

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ — Following is a release from the Democratic National Committee:

A week after Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman vowed to supporters in an e-mail that the RNC would “hold nothing back” and “spend whatever it takes” to “maintain our majorities,” it’s clear that Republicans across the country will do and say just about anything to get elected – even resort to some of the most insidious forms of intolerance.

In the last week alone, a Republican candidate in Minnesota attacked his opponent’s faith, young conservatives in Michigan are running dangerous and divisive “Catch an Illegal Immigrant” and “Fun With Guns” events, and an Arizona Republican Congressional candidate refused to demand that former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke remove an endorsement and a link to his campaign from Duke’s website….”

Then the list of Graf’s associates is exposed.  Lord have Mercy!  What the heck is going on here?

“…Arizona Republican Congressional Candidate Gets David Duke’s Nod of Approval

Knights of the Ku Klux Klan Founder and former Grand Wizard David Duke praises Republican Congressional candidate Randy Graf and links to Graf’s campaign website from his own. The Arizona Daily Star, however, reported that Graf campaign manager R.T. Gregg told that newspaper that “Graf has no plan” to ask David Duke to remove the link to the campaign. Graf’s history may shed some light on that: (http://www.davidduke.com; Arizona Daily Star, 09/21/06)

-(- Graf Opposed Banning Cross Burning.

– In 2004, Graf voted against HB 2694 which made it a Class 1 misdemeanor to burn a cross on another person’s property without permission with the intent to intimidate any person or group of persons. (HB 2694, 5/26/04; Associated Press, 5/5/04)

– Graf Was a Senior Advisor to a Group Led by a Self- Described “White Separatist.”

– Graf was a senior advisor to Protect Arizona Now (PAN). The chair of PAN’s advisory board, Dr. Virginia Abernethy, told The Arizona Republic that she was a “white separatist.”   (Expose of Abernethy and PAN over at The Subway Canaries.  It isn’t good.  If Graf was involved in it – he’s bad news.)

– FAIR Donated Thousands to Graf’s Campaign.  (Look over at the Subway Canaries’s John Tanton archive for more information.

– FAIR’s Political Action Committee donated $5,000 to Graf’s 2004 campaign for Congress. (www.tray.com) Between 1982 and 1994, FAIR received more than $1.2 million from the Pioneer Fund, a little-known foundation created in 1937 which openly supported Adolph Hitler. In fact, Paul Gemma, a known Holocaust denier, is employed at FAIR. (Center for New Community Report, Nov. 2004; The American Prospect, 11/05)…”

The worst part of it, because of Tancredo’s meddling, we could lose the House.  Check out this article.

“…Officials in both parties said private polls show Graf trailing Democratic rival Gabrielle Giffords in the race to replace Republican Rep. Jim Kolbe (news, bio, voting record), who is retiring after 22 years in Congress.

The maneuvering shows the intense district-by-district competition for control of the House, with the two parties adjusting tactics frequently to take changing circumstances into account. Democrats must gain 15 seats this fall to capture control of the 435-member House.

In many circumstances, a decision to turn back reserved advertising time suggests a party has concluded it cannot prevail and prefers to spend its money on a more winnable race. In this case, the GOP advertising is expected to end on Oct. 3, rather than continue throughout the campaign….”

Here is the link to the Graf post over on Duke’s site.  Don’t know how much longer it will be on.  The important thing is the placing of this article and the one that follows.

The next article is called “War Criminal at Bay“  It features a photo of GWB behind bars.

“War Criminal at Bay

By Paul Craig RobertsSeptember 17th, 2006

President George Bush, betrayed by the neoconservatives whom he elevated to power and by his Attorney General, Torture Gonzales who gave him wrong legal advice, is locked in a desperate struggle with the Republican Congress to save himself from war crimes charges at the expense of America’s reputation and our soldiers’ fate. Beguiled by neoconservatives, who told him that the virtuous goals of the American empire justified any means, and misled by an incompetent Attorney General, who told him that the President of the US is above the law, Bush was deceived into committing war crimes under Article 3 of the Geneva Convention and the US War Crimes Act of 1996. Bush is now desperately trying to save himself by having the US Congress retroactively repeal both Article 3 and US law. Under the US Constitution retroactive law is without force, but desperate men will try anything. ..”

Now, this is terribly important because it FINALLY links VDARE directly with David Duke.  Paul Craig Roberts is one of the main writers for VDARE.  Guess Who else writes for them? BINGO – Michelle Malkin!  As far as I am concerned, it finally places her in the racist court

I think the perfect example of Tancredo’s followers is what I found over at the PHXnews.com.  I think it tells you exactly who these people are – and it definately isn’t loyal Republican.

“…This information was sent to me by Sandra Miller. The Bush-McCain controlled Republican party is trying to destroy Republican candidates who will fight illegal immigration. Watch them go after Don Goldwater next. Vote OUT every Arizona congressional Republican up for re-election: Jon Kyl, John Shadagg, Rick Renzi, Trent Franks, Jeff Flake. They are among the FILTH who opposed Arizona Proposition 200. ..”

PART II Do We Really Want Tom Tancredo Running for POTUS on Any GOP Ticket?

On Sept 27 I actually defended Tancredo – just to show I can be fair with him.

Do you think I enjoy defending TT?  I don’t.  But darn it all, if I hit wacked out RINOconservatives for being intellectually dishonest, then by golly, I must do the same thing – ergo I must defend TT.  The whole sordid affair started, according to Tancredo Watch when a staffer to Third District Congressman John Salazar, Nayeera Haq, wrote to Tancredo complaining that his offer to join God as one of the Pope’s advisors was offensive to her faith.  In a recap, TT, joining God as one of the Pope’s advisors (Is the Pope now required to pray in the director of Colorado?), instructed the Pope not to apologize for the text of his speech where he, the Pope, not TT, quoted a medieval Islamic leader.

The whole thing takes me back to my theory that when a person allows religion and superstition to take the place of reason and thought they degrade themselves.  This is the case with Ms. Haq.  She has every right to complain about how she is offended by the Pope.  I  have every right to counter by telling her I am offended by her total lack of reason, thought, and objectivity.  I am offended by her offence.  I am offended by the very idea that I must temper my thoughts, words, and deeds in a way as not to offend Islam.  BIG FAT HARRY DEAL.

Where I disagree with TT, and I seriously do, is the way he handled the situation.  It lacks maturity.  If he wanted to truly reach out and express his ”Christian” faith, he should have contacted the offended young woman and used whole incident for dialogue and look less like a demigogue and more like a statesman.  But…wait…we’re dealing with TT.  Forget adult behavior.  The Rocky Mountain News

“…Tancredo’s letter, which included criticisms of specific passages in The Koran, drew a strong response from Nayyera Haq, the Muslim communications director for Rep. John Salazar, D-Manassa. Haq, who said she was speaking only for herself, accused Tancredo of “hateful,” irresponsible words that alienate progressive Muslims and merely “throw more fuel on the fire.” …”

TT has the right to express himself.  The young woman has a right to express herself.  But….and here is where I am afraid TT is right in that he is not backing down from this (behind the) veiled threat of more violence.  If Muslims are progressive, they understand the idea of FREEDOM OF SPEECH – and that anyone has the right to say anything about any religion whenever!

And so we have the current demands of “Islamic Rights”.  These young TWITS now join the ranks of every other ‘injured’ minority who have become so intellectually impotant that they must now demand rights for themselves by removing the rights of others by threat of violence.

Wed September 13 – Tancredo gets caught in a little SC Racist Mess

The Right Wing News defends Tancredo, then says the following:

As Tancredo Watch rightly points out, there is not a meeting room at the SC Museum that is draped in Confederate flags and memorabilia.

“…The AHHE representative noted that the speech had taken place in the South Carolina State Museum’s room devoted to Confederate relics (I’ll skip the obvious joke), and that this explained the presence of Confederate paraphernalia during Tancredo’s speech. However, the South Carolina State Museum’s facility rental page contains snapshots of its various rooms for rent, and none of them shows any Confederate paraphernalia at all -let alone a Confederate-flag-draped podium….”

The way SC was hit a few years ago, they don’t have the nerve to even admit SC was part of the Confederacy let alone drape a room with Confederate flags.  In fact, the exhibit they have right now about the Civil War Era deals with weapons.

And the Tancredo Watch is correct.  I checked out the SC League of the South web page and found the following:

”…Calling All Red Shirts:  Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) will be our guest at the Visa Room of the SC State Museum at 11:00 AM, Saturday September 9th.    Barbecue will be furnished by Maurice Bessinger’s Piggy Park.  The cost per plate will be approximately $20.00 with proceeds going to Congressman Tancredo’s 501 (c) (4) organization, “America has had enough”.

As you are aware, Congressman Tancredo has led the fight against illegal immigration in Congress.  Join us at the State museum for two hours of vital information, fellowship, and good food.  The cost of the ticket will cover admission into the museum…”

This is a photo of the Vista Room where the meeting took place.  Do you seen any Confederate memorabilia?  I don’t.  This comes from the Museum’s web site.

Americans Have Had Enough is another Tancredo love myself web site.  I don’t want to get into it right now, but it links back to the usual Tanton miasma of organizations.  And, we go back to the Tancredo Watch…

“…Interestingly, the “Americans Have Had Enough” representative, Garland McCoy, claimed to the Post that he was the president and founder of AHHE and that he had “no connection” to Tancredo. However, a Rocky Mountain News article on the same event said that Tancredo is the honorary chairman of “Americans Have Had Enough,” as does AHHE’s own website. And of course the online invitation from the League of the South referred to “America Has Had Enough” as Tancredo’s 501(c)(4) organization…”

Right Wing News writes the following, complaining about the SPLC piece I covered yesterday.  You want to know what makes me really mad.  Tancredo gets a pass.  Right Wing News is so quick to call the SPLC on lies, that they really don’t get into the truth of the story that much.  What really frosts my cookies is the fact that it’s okay for TT to trash Lindsey, but it’s not okay for the SPLC to call Tancredo down for consorting with racists and everything the League of the South has become.

Right Wing News comments:

“…That’s why I could not understand why Tom Tancredo would go to a fund raiser run by these clowns. Here’s the rub: it turns out that the Southern Poverty Law Center got it wrong. The League of the South didn’t throw the fund raiser. I can tell you that definitely because I talked to Tancredo’s press guy, Carlos Espinosa. Carlos told me that the fund raiser was thrown by Americans Have Had Enough! and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group open to, “male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces,” that is, “devoted exclusively to commemorating and honoring Confederate soldiers.”As far as the League of the South goes, Carlos said that they never dealt with those guys and, “For all we know, none of them even showed up.”So, how did the SPL wrongly conclude that the League of the South sponsored the event? Well, apparently, someone at the South Carolina chapter wrote this in their news section:…”

The SPLC quote they are so upset about:

“…On the ground floor, a United States Army brass band commemorated the victims of 9/11. One level up, not far from the museum’s permanent Confederate Army exhibit, the state chapter of the League of the South (LOS), a neo-Confederate hate group, hosted a barbecue in honor of Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, head of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and likely contestant in the 2008 GOP presidential primary. Proceeds from the $15 per-plate fundraiser went to Americans Have Had Enough!, a South Carolina-based non-profit coalition for which Tancredo serves as honorary chairman.

While Tancredo’s hard-line “deport ‘em all” stance on immigration has made him a favorite politician of white supremacists, this marked the first time the congressman has appeared at a hate group event.

Dressed casually in a yellow t-shirt, Tancredo addressed the standing-room audience of 200-250 from behind a podium draped in a Confederate battle flag. To the congressman’s right, a portrait of Robert E. Lee peered out at the crowd of Minutemen activists, local politicians, and red-shirted members of LOS and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The Confederate trappings of the event found a mismatch in Tancredo’s standard nativist polemic, which stayed clear of references to Southern heritage or direct plaudits for the LOS, a Southern white nationalist organization dedicated to “Southern independence, complete, full, and total.”..”

Now the problem is this:  If TT did not have a history of hanging out with various ‘racist‘ and hate groups, I would give The Right Wing News a pass.  Unfortunately, either they do not know, or are ignoring the misc. racists in the Tancredo wood pile – something I’ve repeatedly reported.  And you gotta love it when TT is taking money from people who are very much against GWB and the War on Terror!

August 15 – Tancredo Gets Caught about his Military Experience

Colorado Confidential as some big new dirt on Tancredo!  (well, not really, but it eventually is funny)  And, don’t forget – they have one of the juciest archives of TT dirt around.

…”Last year, it was reported that in 1970, after Tancredo’s student deferments ran out, he appealed his 1-A draft status, which would have put him at the top of the list for draft eligibility during the Vietnam War. Tancredo said he didn’t remember it that way. But he said he was given a 1-Y status, which put him at the bottom of the list, when he reported that he had been treated for mental illness as a teenager. Tancredo said he was diagnosed with depression when he was 16 or 17 and received medication for five years for panic attacks and bouts of anxiety and depression. Because of Tancredo’s draft record, Coffman said he specifically asked organizers of the rally whether Tancredo would be speaking…”

Max Blumenthol exposes TT – try this one from the American Family Radio show

“[13:30]
FEMALE CO-HOST: Our guest to me is like visiting with
John Wayne. He is the epitome of the American guy. He
is it… what I appreciate about Congressman Tancredo
is the fact that he does stand for…like John Wayne
in the movies, he’s got that cowboy mentality that i
just love. CO-HOST MARVIN SANDERS: In the back of my mind is this
thought that you were a Marine. Am I right about that?

TANCREDO: No sir, I did not serve. I could not serve,
but I certainly wish that I had that opportunity.FEMALE CO-HOST: He’s serving now. That’s a fact.

SANDERS: You’re like a Marine in the House of
Representatives.

TANCREDO: Well, that’s true. We take a lot of flak. I
know that.

SANDERS: I was so engrossed in the [Tancredo's latest] book.
That only adds to that John Wayne image.

[28:00]
SANDERS: I think the Marine image I had in my head was
the Marines played by John Wayne. He [Tancredo] reminds
me so much of John Wayne.”

Walmart’s profit is down for the first time in years!

Tancredo Watch has more fun stuff on our favorite racist RINO conservative Congressperson.  Sometimes you just gotta wonder how long he can keep on getting away with stuff.  TT’s racist slip is showing.

Tancredo and Anti-Immigration

Part I

To get an accurate background into what started the whole anti-immigration movement, you need to start with this same press release, which puts all the leading characters into their places.  And, once again, we come  up with the same cast:  Tom Tancredo, Pat Buchanan, Bay Buchanan, and their total hatred of George W. Bush.  To understand Tancredo’s hatred, you must go back to his feud with Karl Rove.

“…On Thursday evening, the eyes of America focused on Arizona, ground zero in the border invasion that tears at the fabric of the nation. Lawmakers and immigration experts came to Phoenix to encourage volunteers to do everything possible to succeed in getting the Protect Arizona Now (PAN) initiative qualified for the fall ballot.

PAN aims to require proof of citizenship to register to vote, photo I.D. when voting and proof of eligibility to receive non-federal mandated public benefits. By June 30th, PAN must submit 122,000 valid signatures to the Arizona Secretary of State’s office in order to get it placed on the official voting ballot for the November election. Recently, the signature tally was over 60,000.

One by one, a high-profile parade of speakers strode to the podium to implore Arizonans to make PAN succeed. The only person absent was PAN director Kathy McKee, who is feuding with fellow initiative leaders and is mistrustful of FAIR.

Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, the foremost federal lawmaker in fighting the border invasion, flew in to rouse the PAN troops. So did Bay Buchanan, the sister of Pat Buchanan and director of Team America, Los Angeles talk show host Terry Anderson and several members of the Federation of Americans for Immigration Reform (FAIR). Based in Washington, D.C., FAIR is spending $100,000 to pay people to gather the necessary signatures. FAIR sponsored Thursday’s rally.

Tancredo said, “I love Arizona and will come to Arizona at the drop of a hat. The task you have ahead of you is a difficult one. Some good things are happening. You can tell momentum is shifting in this country. Little things are happening.”

The congressman said that President Bush ignited a firestorm of protest in  January when he introduced a Temporary Worker Program.

“That prompted a response I’ve never seen,” Tancredo said, “1,000 calls to my office in four hours, 99.999 percent of which were negative. People were saying, ‘I’ve been a Republican all my life and I’m not going to vote for him (President Bush).’”

Pat Buchanan said last week that the president has abandoned that plan.

However, at a Republican congressional retreat in Philadelphia two weeks after the Bush announcement, Tancredo felt that immigration reform would surely be placed on the agenda.

“It’s the one thing people agree on,” Tancredo said. “People by the throngs say, ‘yes, secure the borders!’ We have two problems to get anything accomplished: the Democratic Party – it’s a source of votes. On the other side we’ve got the Republican Party, which sees a source of cheap labor. These two power brokers are tough to beat. Karl Rove (senior adviser to Bush) and the White House people were at the retreat. At the end of the second day, I went up to speak. There were 30 members in line. Every person who spoke said, ‘this immigration thing … is he (Bush) crazy? Tell him to knock it off!’ …”

The Episcopal-Anglican Donnybrook – All You Need to Know – And Never Really Wanted to Ask

I think it is time to put all the information about Bishop Akinola, the Episcopalian-Anglican snit, and the problems Akinola has caused into one place.  Basically here is all the information you probably will need to make an intelligent decision.  I must state up front it has taken me several years to come to a decision about how I feel with certain Anglican diocese stepping in to pick up break-away parishes.  Until a few weeks ago I was more for it than against, but dreading the fact that my Rio Grande Diocese may be forced to make this decision.  Now that I’ve found the information I’ve listed below, there is no way I can go along with it.

I’ve combined several postings from the Pink Flamingo to make up this one.  I think most of what you need to form an educated opinion of the goings on in the Episcopal church.  I don’t like it.  I don’t like the way we were put in this position by the liberal machinations of the supporters of Gene Robinson.  But, two wrongs do not make a right, and what Bishop Peter Akinola is doing is just plain wrong.  The other day I was reading that C. S. Lewis felt the sin of spiritual pride was the worst sin a Christian could commit.  As you get into the information you will find that it is entirely possible Akinola’s entry into the US as offering his Diocese of Nigeria as a way around all the liberal doings that lead up to Robinson an beyond was connived.  I think it has absolutely nothing to do with ‘being Christian’ and returning ‘Christ to the Episcopal Church’ but more a way for Akinola to set himself up as a power-broker within the Anglican Communion.

Akinola has put himself in a roll that can only be described as the Anglican Communion’s version of the Grand Inquisitor.  This in itself is a very bad thing, bringing with it all the negative connotations of the Inquisition, for this is indeed what he has begun.  No where in his writings do you find reference to the “Fruits of the Spirit”

  • love;
  • joy;
  • peace;
  • patience;
  • kindness;
  • goodness;
  • faithfulness;
  • gentleness;
  • self-control.

In my simple way of thinking, the way you judge a Christian is by the way he/she exhibits these attributes.  No where in Akinola’s writings do you find anything like this.  I think he has started down a very dangerous road and in the process is leading the ECUSA’s break-away parishes down the primrose path.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

Instead of condemning and vilifying, if Akinola were truly a man of God, would he not be trying to mend fences and bring about a reconciliation?  Instead he is destroying.  Christ taught that blessed are the peacemakers.  What is the opposite of this for a Christian leader?

I have one more problem.  When a person is so very much of a homophobe there are usually two reasons:  First they were molested or attacked, second and the most frequent – they are so deep within the closet they must reach out with hatred and destroy that which they most desire.  Considering the fact that nowhere in Akinola’s writings does he condemn child molesters, it sure makes you wonder!

Starting on December 26, 2006

You can blame Brit Hume for my rant today.  I spent the morning looking up information on Bishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria and the problems he is causing here in the US for the Episcopal Church.  I was shocked to discover Fred Barnes is a member of one of the churches that voted to succeed from the Episcopal Church and join with the ultra-conservative, homophobic Nigerian Church.  After several hours of reading, you have all the links, I made a few interesting discoveries and finally, after nearly four years of soul-searching, came to several well-educated conclusions.  I just want to say I do not like what I have found.  I also want to say up until a few weeks ago when I started investigating Bishop Akinola, I was inclined to have voted along the lines of Fred Barnes.  I’m sure glad I had the opportunity to delve deeply into the subject and the personalities involved.  I’ve come to the heart-wrenching conclusion that Akinola’s actions  have absolutely nothing to do with the church or Christ.

If you follow the timeline presented below, you might be shocked, as I was, to discover Akinola was waiting, like a vulture, ready to swoop into the ECUSA within hours after Gene Robinson being elected as Bishop of New Hampshire.  This alone should send up red flags warning we might be dealing with a very ambitious person who was interested in promoting his own personal agenda ahead of doing the ‘blessed are the peacemakers’ thing and trying to heal the breach that had begun.  Instead of healing, he took on something of the role of the Grand Inquisitor of old, ready to burn out any mention of homosexuality.

That brings us to the next question.

Why the hell is Peter Akinola such a homophobe?

We all know there are basically two reasons.  The first, was the possibility that he was molested by a homosexual as a child or young man.  If this is the case then he needs to get a grip and deal with it (as have all of us who were molested as children).  Like the sociopath serial killer who claims he/she was molested as a child, this is no excuse for such hatred or actions.

The other reason he is such a homophobe is there’s something in his past.  Rank homophobes are afraid of their own sexual orientation.  Once again I go back to the Grand Inquisitor analogy, and burning the seductive young woman as a witch because she repulsed his sexual advances.  Me thinks the Bishop protests too much.  I am of the opinion by the time this is all over and horrible damage has been done, a few gay little skeletons are going to come tumbling out of someone’s closet and it won’t be Gene Robinson’s.

Going back to the Grand Inquisitor analogy, I know of no more prefect example for Peter Akinola.  Grand Inquisitors of the Spanish Inquisition were harsh, cruel, hate-filled individuals who exemplified the very worst aspects of Christianity.  These were the men who ordered countless thousands of men and women to be executed because they were not acceptable to the faith.  While Bishop Akinola has not gone that far, he has given his approval for gays and lesbians to be put in prison for the very fact that they are what they are.  Not only does he hate the sin, but, contrary to the teachings of Christ, hates the sinner.

My ‘other sister’ and I were talking about Akinola this evening.  A mother, she struggles to live an example of a virtue for her two daughters, one of whom is a teenager.  While I have no children, I have two nieces and a nephew.  I’ve spent many years of my life teaching young people about Christ.  I cannot allow myself to stray from a path of virtue.  Young people must have examples.  In a world of anything goes, someone must stand for something.  I stand for virtue.  I do not stand for being narrow minded, bigoted, or homophobic.  I do not approve of promiscuity.  I think it is wrong.  It does not matter what the gender or orientation.  It doesn’t matter.  Immorality is immorality.

If Bishop Akinola were to come out and stand up for molested children and condemn pedophiles and the African practice of infant rape to cure AIDS I would have just a tad more respect for him.  Unfortunately we see none of it, or as far as I can tell by Googling, nothing comes up.   Why is it important to condemn homosexuals but give a pass to pedophiles and child molesters?

Let’s be honest.  The message against allowing gays and lesbians to marry is not a popular nor a politically correct one.  Unfortunately, because I believe in the sanctity of marriage and happen to believe making any sort of change will open a Pandora’s box of defining deviancy down, I must agree.  I feel they should be allowed civil unions.  I think we should also be prepared to accept the fact that the problems within the world-wide Anglican communion dealing with the issue of homosexuality have been worsened by Bishop Akinola.  He shows no love.  He is interested in blind ambition and must have his own way.  Perhaps while we are praying for the ECUSA, maybe we need to accept the fact that Bishop Akinola is not showing the “Fruits of the Spirit”.

When one has Christ and the Holy Spirit within one has the following aspects of Christ:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control  - and suffers long; is kind; does not envy; does not parade itself; does not get ‘puffed up’; does not behave rudely; is not provoked; does not think evilly, nor rejoice in sin; rejoices in the truth; bears all things; believes all things; hopes all things; endures all things. true; noble; just; pure; lovely; of good report; of any virtue; worthy of praise; tender mercies; kindness; humility; meekness; patience; bear with one another; forgive one another; love; let the peace of God rule their hearts; be thankful; have the Word live in them; teach and admonish one another; sing with grace in their hearts.

How many of these aspects does Bishop Akinola display? Maybe we should be praying for his soul and his personal relationship with the Lord.

The transcript of Dec 18th Brit Hume discussion  about the problems in the Episcopal Church and the back and forth between Juan Williams, Episcopalian and Fred Barnes, also Episcopalian and a member of one of the churches to vote to leave and go with Islamic appeaser Bishop Peter Akinola.

“…FRED BARNES, WEEKLY STANDARD: I do. I belong to the Falls Church. And my wife and I — Barbara and I, both voted to withdraw from the Episcopal Church, or disaffiliate, which the word that seems to be going around. And one of my daughters and her husband did, as well. And it wasn’t just Gene Robinson, the gay bishop, that was sort of a catalyst, here, but there’s been a trend in the national Episcopal Church for the last 30, 40, 50 years to move away from the authority of scripture to move away from the belief in the divinity of Christ and the resurrection and that the way our lives are saved and we go to heaven is through faith in Jesus Christ. All that’s been rejected by somebody in the National Church….”

I am very disappointed in Fred Barnes.  I thought he was a stand-up ally in the War for Civilization.  Evidently homophobia and the hysteria that these specific parishes have created is more important than his standards on the war.  Like I read the other day about a conservative pro-lifer in Iowa.  We are at war for our lives.  We cannot allow minor arguments to cloud the issue.  Bishop Akinola is so determined to prevent homosexuals from coming to power in the Episcopal/Anglican Church he has made a deal with the Islamic devil in Nigeria.  He has agreed to either support or not hinder the extreme Islamic laws imposed including execution for homosexuals.  Akinola himself endorsed legislation promoting a position that gays and lesbians could not be allowed to dine together in public.  This is Christian?  This is upholding the teachings of Christ?  Allowing monstrous laws that promote the abuse of women and children, and Christians has absolutely nothing to do with Christ.  I am ashamed of Fred Barnes. I thought he stood for more than this.   To be honest here, Akinola is very much against the extreme sharia of northern Nigeria and has been known to incite riots and violence against Moslems.

As an Episcopalian who has been heart-sick over this issue for the past three years, I have come to realize perhaps we, as a church, are being tested.  Somewhere I read or heard the statement, “The Devil has a very pleasing countenance.”  Bishop Akinola talks a good game with much smoke and mirrors about HIS version of Anglican theology being based directly on the teachings of Christ (like OURS isn’t?) but he aligns himself with the enemy of all that his truly holy.  How can this be a good thing?  How can good, honorable men like Fred Barnes be taken in by his pragmatism.  I am not that wise.  I think I’d much rather associate with Gene Robinson.  After all, when Christ was here on earth, He hung out with sinners.  There is something repulsively arrogant about Akinola’s political positions and his determination to ram his extreme homophobia down the throats of the Episcopal Church here in the United States.  If you go back to this excellent time-table, you will find he is the one who began making trouble not long after Gene Robinson was elected Bishop of New Hampshire.   If Akinola had practiced love instead of  hate, maybe we would be in a much better position today.

In the Episcopal Church we pray the following prayer, asking for forgiveness of our sins.  I have a feeling Bishop Gene Robinson is quite aware of his short-fallings.  But, does Bishop Peter Akinola ask forgiveness for the suffering he, through his

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;

in your compassion forgive us our sins,

known and unknown,

things done and left undone;

and so uphold us by your Spirit

that we may live and serve you in newness of life,

to the honor and glory of your Name;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Check in with Fr. Jake Stops the World and get a different version of this story.   You also need to read the article from The Nation .   I go back to my premise on illegal immigration.  There is morality, there is ‘the law’, and there is basic right and basic wrong.  I also go back to my favorite  from the Bible – The Sermon on the Mount.

To be fair and balanced, the following is a copy of the letter Akinola wrote to the parishes in Virginia.  You be the judge.    The site, Thinking Anglicans does an excellent job of covering the issue.    You might want to read the Presiding Bishop’s Christmas address and compare it to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s address.   If you want my personal opinion, this man is clueless.

Bishop Schori’s address is a little too PC for me, but nowhere did I see a denial of the Divinity of Christ and Mr. Barnes has suggested is part and parcel of the total modern, liberal Episcopalian package.  No, I don’t like what is going on here.  I have previously stated my objections to Bishop Robinson are due to the fact that he was given a pass for behavior that would be censured at the very least in a heterosexual priest.  But, I do not like the high-handed, self-righteous, patronizing tone I read in the statements handed out from the Anglican end of the church.  Perhaps those across The Pond had best remember what occurred the last time they became a little bit too high-handed with us Colonials. Can you say 1776?  After reading through the postings over on Thinking Anglicans I think we are dealing with a heck of a lot more than the whole homosexual issue.  Something else is going on here.  I just wonder what it is.

Oh heck, I know what it is. So do you.  So does Church Lady from SNL.  Is it Satan?  Going back to a 2005 posting over at ThinkingAngllicans.org.  read what I just read.  If you have a heart and a soul, I think it will sicken you.  Read this and see what you think of Akinola.    Poor Fred Barnes, he has been sucked into the pleasing, ultra, ultra conservative countenance of a man who has cast his lot with those who are against a far greater decency.  There is morality and immorality.  Homosexuality is immoral.  Decency is treating such people as honorable human beings who are no more or no less flawed sinners than are the rest of us.  Indecency is treating them like animals.   Accepting gay unions is one thing, accepting and allowing a gay to be imprisoned for life just because that person happens to be gay is another story entirely.  What is right and what is wrong here?

“…A gay Ugandan Christian has been denied a visa to enter Britain in order to attend a meeting at the invitation of the Anglican church next week because there is a warrant for his arrest in his home country where homosexuality is punishable by life imprisonment…”

Do you really think Christ would approve of this?

What do we really know about Bishop Peter Akinola?   How about this commentary from Thinking Anglicans back in May of 2006.  It isn’t a story we were told back here in the ‘States’.

“Two recent, egregious, examples: last week our old friend Archbishop Akinola waded into the inter-religious violence in Nigeria with all the abandon of a man waving a lighted match near a pool of petrol, threatening Muslims that they did not have a monopoly of violence. Who knows what the effect, but shortly afterwards Christian mobs in Onitsha started hacking people to death with machetes. The only people I can find who condoned the Archbishop’s remarks were on American blogsites. Even his fellow bishop Cyril Okorocha thought he was being inflammatory.

Akinola’s hot on the Bible but he doesn’t seem to have read the Beatitudes recently. Of course Christians were already under attack from Muslims but that’s no excuse. The injunctions in Matthew 5 really take on their meaning when they are most difficult.

This of course is the archbishop who has just ostentatiously praised the Nigerian government for introducing draconian and inhumane legislation against homosexuals, thereby breaking that great holy writ of conservative evangelicals, Lambeth 1.10, but that’s old news.

Let’s take as our second example one of Akinola’s allies, the Archbishop of Central Africa, the Most Rev. Bernard Malango, another primate who is quick to criticise the gay mote in England and America but slow to recognise the beam in his own eye.

He’s the man who recently absolved, without trial, Bishop Nolbert Kunonga of Harare. The list of 38 charges against the good bishop, who is a crony of Robert Mugabe, brought against him by his own black parishioners, include little matters such as incitement to murder, intimidation, ignoring church law, mishandling funds and proselytising for Zanu PF from the pulpit. He has also occupied a farm and evicted 40 families from a local village. A couple of months ago he even licensed the acting vice-president of Zimbabwe Joseph Msika, a man on record as saying that whites are not human beings, to act as a deacon of the church.

Archbishop Malango decided Kunonga had done nothing wrong after the case faltered in Zimbabwe, because of a little spot of harassment and intimidation. Thanks to that, he has not a stain on his character and is going round saying the charges were all got up by whites.

But that’s not all Archbishop Malango’s been up to. He’s also been persecuting the Rev. Nicholas Henderson, the London vicar who was chosen last summer as Bishop of Lake Malawi by members of the diocese impressed by his many years of close association and work with them.

Henderson was rejected by the archbishop as being of “unsound faith” because he had been secretary of the Modern Churchpeople’s Union, a body so subversive that it has been undermining the church for only the last 108 years.

There were also unsubstantiated smears about the vicar’s sexuality, allegedly poured into the archbishop’s ear by conservative evangelicals and bloggers – they’d certainly know all about him – which were so devastating that even Mr Henderson’s own assurances of his theological, ethical and sexual orthodoxy and, perhaps more to the point, the support of his impeccably evangelical bishop, Pete Broadbent, were not enough to save him.

Mr Henderson has recently been back to Malawi but was told he should not enter a church during his stay. Local Anglicans have been demonstrating in his support and insisting they want him rather than an old buddy of Malango’s whom the archbishop wishes to instal instead.

Now these men have all been very hot on western decadence. They want the American Episcopal Church, and especially Gene Robinson, banned from the next Lambeth Conference, though I don’t think Robinson has ever threatened violence against anyone…”

Let’s try this again – from Fr. Jake Stops the World blog.  Now I don’t know about you, but I’m liking Akinola less and less.  Let’s also face the fact that we are dealing with the same knee-jerk RIGHT conservative mind-set that is promoting mindless and irrational anti-immigration laws.  I can’t see anything different here.  We’re dealing with the same people.  They are so determined to have their own way that they cannot see the collateral damage they are causing.  I don’t care what political persuasion or religion you are, the events detailed above and below are just plain wrong. They are NOT CHRISTIAN.

“……last week our old friend Archbishop Akinola waded into the inter-religious violence in Nigeria with all the abandon of a man waving a lighted match near a pool of petrol, threatening Muslims that they did not have a monopoly of violence. Who knows what the effect, but shortly afterwards Christian mobs in Onitsha started hacking people to death with machetes. The only people I can find who condoned the Archbishop’s remarks were on American blogsites. Even his fellow bishop Cyril Okorocha thought he was being inflammatory…

From the Catholic Information Service for Africa: …Media reports say suspected mobs of Christians armed with machetes and guns roamed the streets of the mainly Christian city of Onitsha, in the south-east, killing at least 40 people in retaliation for Muslim violence in the north.

The revenge killings came a day after the country’s leading Anglican primate, Archbishop Peter Akinola, warned Muslims that they did not have a “monopoly on violence.” He said churches “may no longer be able to contain our restive youths should this ugly trend continue”… Abp. Akinola’s statement is dated February 21. Here is a segment of a report regarding the violence in Nigeria that appeared in the New York Times February 24: ONITSHA, Nigeria – Dozens of charred, smoldering bodies littered the streets of this bustling commercial capital Thursday after three days of rioting in which Christian mobs wielding machetes, clubs and knives set upon their Muslim neighbors.

Rioters have killed scores of people here, mostly Muslims, after burning their homes, businesses and mosques in the worst violence yet linked to the caricatures of Prophet Muhammad first published in a Danish newspaper…

The main thoroughfare leading into the city across the Niger River was covered in carrion – the bodies of Muslim Hausas trying to flee rampaging bands of youths, witnesses said. Many of the victims appeared to have been beaten to death; most of the bodies had been doused with gasoline and burned…

…At the central mosque, rioters burned the building and hacked down trees.

Someone wrote in chalk on a charred wall: “Jesus is Lord. As from today know more Muhammad.”

Thousands of Muslim residents fled the city, some on foot over the bridge leading to Delta state, taking refuge in neighboring cities. Thousands more huddled in police and army barracks in Onitsha and surrounding towns…”

 How about this version?

Contrary to his comments, Akinola has been working on this compromise with the Islamic leaders of Nigeria for months.   And an excellent history of the whole ‘affair’.

There is more on the break-away Parishes in Virginia.  Once again I think good minded conservatives have been manipulated and have been made to look bad.  Father Jake Stops the World has a link to even additional information  I keep repeating myself, I know, but surely Fred Barnes has investigated Akinola.  If I can find out what he is, why not others, but then I have noticed the same problem when we are dealing with the anti-immigration people.  I was talking to my friend Leroy today as he scalped me (looks good).  I presented my theory that Akinola is so horribly homophobic because he fears himself.  Leroy mentioned that it has always been his observation that people who are extreme in their anti-homosexual views are terrified of their own sexuality and the fact that have these tendencies.  We also had a discussion about gays/lesbians and marriage.  Funny, but Leroy, who has been in a committed relationship since junior high (seriously) dislikes promiscuity as much as do I.  He views promiscuity as a sin.

Mary Katherine Ham trying to defend her Episcopal church’s decision to break with the ECUSA and go with the Nigerian church. I’m sorry there is no defense for dealing with hate and ambition.  No number of excuses and lies can cover the abject hatred and bigotry of Bishop Akinola.  He is the Anglican version of the Grand Inquisitor, hated and all.  We may have our problems and our gay priests and bishops, (no I do not approve of it) but I’m sure glad I have opted to remain with the Episcopal Church and not aligned myself with someone like Akinola.  This isn’t a liberal or conservative issue here.  It is right verses wrong.  It is the fact that Akinola swooped in like a vulture to destroy not to heal.  Christ taught, Blessed are the Peacemakers.  Where is Akinola here?  He violates every one of the Beatitudes.  Christ is love.  Love does not endorse draconian measures against  segment of the population because of their sexual orientation, then lie about it has done Akinola. Anyone who deludes themselves into thinking it is because of the ‘gay sex’ issue should be ashamed of themselves.

What do you know about the Spanish Inquisition?  The practices endorsed by Peter Akinola in Nigeria are a modern version of it.

Although the Inquisition was created to halt the advance of heresy, it also occupied itself with a wide variety of offenses that only indirectly could be related to religious heterodoxy. Of a total of 49,092 trials from the period 1560–1700 registered in the archive of the Suprema, appear the following: judaizantes (5,007); moriscos (11,311); Lutherans (3,499); alumbrados (149); superstitions (3,750); heretical propositions (14,319); bigamy (2,790); solicitation (1,241); offenses against the Holy Office of the Inquisition (3,954); miscellaneous (2,575).

This data demonstrates that not only New Christians (conversos of Jewish or Islamic descent) and Protestants faced persecution, but also many Old Christians were targeted for various reasons.

The category “superstitions” includes trials related to witchcraft. The witch-hunt in Spain had much less intensity than in other European countries (particularly France, England, and Germany). One remarkable case was the case of Logroño, in which the witches of Zugarramurdi in Navarre were persecuted. During the Auto de Fe that took place in Logroño on November 7 and November 8, 1610, 6 people were burned and another 5 burned in effigy.[13] In general, nevertheless, the Inquisition maintained a skeptical attitude towards cases of witchcraft, considering it — in contrast to the Mediaeval Inquisitions — as a mere superstition without any basis. Alonso de Salazar Frias, who, after the trials of Logroño took the Edict of Faith to various parts of Navarre, noted in his report to the Suprema that, “There were no witches nor bewitched in the region after beginning to speak and write about them” [14]

Included under the rubric of heretical propositions were verbal offenses, from outright blasphemy to questionable statements regarding religious beliefs, from issues of sexual morality, to behavior of the clergy. Many were brought to trial for affirming that simple fornication (sex without the explicit aim of procreation) was not a sin or for putting in doubt different aspects of Christian faith such as Transubstantiation or the virginity of Mary. Also, members of the clergy itself were on occasion accused of heretical propositions. These offenses were infrequently paired with severe penalties.

The Inquisition also pursued offenses against morals, at times in open conflict with the jurisdictions of civil tribunals. In particular, there were numerous trials for bigamy, a relatively frequent offense in a society that only permitted divorce under the most extreme circumstances. In the case of men, the penalty was five years in the galley (tantamount to a death sentence). Women too were accused of bigamy. Also, many cases of solicitation during confession were adjudicated, indicating a strict vigilance over the clergy.

Inquisitorial repression of the sexual offenses of homosexuality and bestiality, considered, according to Canon Law, crimes against nature, merits separate attention.
